My friends know I am NOT a gamer. I have sent out several blast posts on Facebook to prevent people from inviting me to play games like Candy Crush. I always felt they were a silly waste of time until a friend of mine introduced to me the Covet fashion app. I’m now completely hooked! It really allows every fashion addict to live vicariously through their virtual closet creating looks and buying more covetable clothes! The clothes come from real designers like Rachel Zoe, Rebecca Minkoff, Nanette Lepore, and Halston Heritage. So how does it work? There are several events you can enter to win prizes for your closet and also real prizes. You need tickets to enter the events which you earn by voting on the looks of the other players. The looks with the highest ratings (4 stars or higher) win the prize. The app is really creative with the different scenarios it sets for the players to create a look around. Some of my favorites have been a vixen on a night out and a Venezuelan fling. You are able to choose everything including hair style, skin color, make-up, jewelry….everything! It is absolutely so much fun! Here are some of my favorite and winning looks:
A night at the symphony
Shopping on Rodeo Drive
Elegant dinner party hostess.
The chic detective.
A Venezuelan fling.
WARNING! WARNING! WARNING!
This game will be highly addictive to all fashionistas!
There’s no better way to kick off the holiday season than getting together with friends. This weekend my husband and I had the wonderful opportunity to attend a 40th surprise birthday celebration for a friend of ours. It was so sweet how his wife orchestrated a beautiful event with friends and family from all over. The guest of honor was truly surprised and expressed his gratitude to all of the guests that came from near and far to celebrate his day.
When it comes to parties, you can’t go wrong with a slick, all-black ensemble. After much consideration, I elected to wear this black faux leather peplum top with this skirt which really accented the faux leather panels on the skirt. I was inspired by some great advice I received from Clinton Kelly himself a few weeks ago on what to pair with a midi pencil skirt. You can read about the event with Clinton Kelly in my previous post.
All in all it was a great night and I’m looking forward to more upcoming holiday soirees
I often have trouble getting into the holiday spirit. It could be because stores began setting out holiday decor and products around Halloween or the fact that Thanksgiving is so overshadowed by Black Friday sales. Maybe it’s the fact that holiday music is played starting in early November so by the time Christmas rolls around I’m sick of it already. Whatever the reason, it gets harder for me every year to shake off the grinch feeling. A few weeks ago I was playing a tennis match in Piedmont Park and caught a glimpse of the light display in the Atlanta Botanical Garden. I went home and did some online research and decided to check it out.
This past Friday my husband and I had our date night at the Garden in the Lights. It was both of ours first time to the Atlanta Botanical Garden and it was definitely a sight to see.
We went during peak hours so there were plenty of families and couples out to enjoy the magical display on a not-so-cold night.
I was thoroughly impressed with decor of the grounds. It was literally like walking through a winter wonderland with music, hot drinks, and even fireplaces to make your own s’mores.
Who is excited for the return of a new Scandal tonight after a brief hiatus! I know I am although I’m not happy about a winter finale. The torture of waiting to find out how the entangled lives of Olivia, Fitz, and now her mother will unfold. In honor of the return of my favorite show and t.v. heroine, I am featuring a classic Olivia Pope look. One of the best parts of her wardrobe are her coats and this cozy, wrap style is so luxe. It’s one of those items you can throw on top of anything and look sophisticated as ever. But of course, Olivia Pope wears it with a slick pair of trousers, a feminine blouse, and pearl jewelry. Are you obsessed with Olivia Pope? What’s your favorite look?
The only thing better than a great pair of boots is a pair of military-inspired boots. I first saw these Area Forte riding boots in Anthropologie last season and instantly fell in love….but not with the price. I scavenged the web and found the same boots for way cheaper on 6pm.com. I was delighted to add these unique boots to my collection. The subtle mottled look to the brown leather give them a vintage feel making them so intriguing. The design is also very interesting with a lace-up detail on the front and rustic silver buttons along the side. This is the type of boot that makes a statement even though it’s a classic that will be relevant for years to come. They were definitely worth the investment
Winter shorts. It seems like an oxymoron but it’s a look that I have embraced along with many other fashion-minded ladies out there. It’s a nice alternative to a dress or a skirt with tights and for some reason, it seems a tad more flirtatious. Last week I wrote a post about revisiting the classic look of houndstooth. I found these cuties years ago at Macy’s and they are still very relevant. The shorts speak for themselves so I usually just wear a solid top and tights and some sexy heels to accent the legs. Another cute idea is to wear over-the-knee boots and show just a peek-a-boo of thigh. The booties were an old purchase as well from Nine West. I honestly kind of forgot about them until I stumbled upon them a few weeks ago. There’s nothing like dusting off a great pair of shoes and giving them new life. Do you wear winter shorts? If so, I’d love to see how you rock them.
Are you still contemplating Thanksgiving Day outfit ideas? Here are two ideas you can toss around. Contrary to what most people think, I don’t think it’s a good idea to wear super loose and comfortable clothes on holidays. This just encourages the likelihood of you overeating and feeling bad about yourself later. Another tip is never go to a party hungry. Always eat a light snack before heading over so you won’t be the guest hogging the appetizer table. I feel you should be relatively comfortable, and of course, adorable. If you’re attending a more formal sit down dinner, I recommend an A-line or skater dress. This silhouette is feminine without being too restrictive. This River Island dress has it’s own pearl necklace embellishment which I paired with an edgier silver moto jacket so it wouldn’t be so girly. Adding opaque tights and classic patent Mary Janes helps ground the look (and keeps your legs warm for those in colder climates). For those attending a more casual gathering, try a nice pair of jeans with some stretch for comfort. I love this mixed texture moto knit jacket. The fur collar adds a touch of sophistication. You can’t go wrong with these sick pair of Marc Jacobs over-the-knee boots! I hope these ideas help you a little. Honestly, I’ll be at home with the hubby for Turkey Day and will be lounging in my fluffy leopard print robe all day
It looks like tartan is here to stay. The safe way to incorporate this look into your wardrobe would be to add a tartan blazer or shirt but why not be a little daring and try some plaid pants? I stumbled upon these adorable pair from Mango and was inspired to pair some looks with them. I will admit that wearing plaid pants can be a little tricky so I have created three different ways to rock this look. The first look is for someone with a more edgy personality. The addition of a cool leather moto jacket and Jeffrey Campbell booties to an otherwise preppy look gives it a London rocker, school-girl look. If your looking for a more work appropriate look try pairing the pants with a feminine silk blouse, a structured blazer, and pearls. If you’re a little self-concious about your rear, you can wear a long cardigan with a scarf and tall boots to provide a cozy and casual look.
Which look do you like the best? I would love to see what outfits you come up with so feel free to share!
