My mother and I decided to do things a little differently this holiday. Instead of freezing our buns off in chilly Pittsburgh, we headed south for the sunny beaches of the Bahamas. We went on a quick cruise to Nassau and Castaway Cay on the Disney Magic which turned out to be a beautiful, newly refurbished ship. We left the day after Christmas and returned just in time for NYE celebration.
First stop, Nassau!
Immediately after docking on shore, we headed to Graycliff Manor. I saw a feature on this place on Destination Tennis and knew we had to check it out. It’s an historical mansion located next to the Governor’s house which boasts luscious gardens, a world-re-knowned wine cellar, and it’s own cigar and chocolate factories.
We enjoyed a delicious breakfast and then toured the grounds.
It’s a jungle out there!
I purchased a few goodies for the hubby who loves cigars.
Stunning pool.
Next we headed to Bay street which is the popular shopping district and also home of the Nassau Straw Market.
You could find just about anything here.
Just a little glimpse of how the other half lives…..
Check out part II later this week!

As 2013 comes to an end, we often find ourselves reflecting on our lives and the events that occurred over the past year. There may be some things we made be proud of, and others, not so much. People love to set goals for the new year as well as lofty resolutions. I used to set resolutions for myself every year but felt very disappointed in myself when I couldn’t keep the resolutions. I found that it was a set up for a sour tone for the rest of the year. So, about two years ago I decided to scrap the resolutions and just try to become more of what I already am. There’s always room for improvement in every aspect of one’s life so I just focused on being a better friend, daughter, wife, doctor, etc. You’ll be surprised how much you can accomplish just by increasing your awareness. Lastly, take advantage of a fresh start by truly making the most of all of the opportunities that are presented to you. By learning to appreciate your current blessings, you will further enjoy the new blessings that are yet to come.
Happy New Year!
