If there’s one ‘it’ bag you need for this fall season, it’s a crocodile handbag. I know it can set a fashionista back several thousand dollars but there are many faux croc options available that are just as beautiful. When I think of a crocodile handbag, it instantly brings thoughts of luxury and sophistication like the iconic Hermes Birkin bag. I personally love a classsic top handle satchel bag, but designers have created some amazing crocodile handbags in all kinds of styles. You will no longer be limited to brown and black with this closet staple. Tory Burch has a beautiful cobalt blue tote as well as a juicy red choice by YSL. If you really want to be funky, try a two-tone bag like the Dolce Gabbana pictured below. Either way, you can’t go wrong with purchasing this timeless classic which will continue to be relevant for many seasons to come.
Mesh?!?! This material immediately gives me flashbacks of the 80’s when I was trying to emulate my role model, Madonna. It can be a scary thing to wear. If done wrong, you can look like you belong on the Fashion Police segment Starlet or Streetwalker. However, when it’s done right, it can be demure and very chic. It’s a great way to show just enough skin to draw interest but keep them guessing about what’s underneath. I’m loving the way designers are taking mesh to the next level. A one-piece swimsuit with mesh paneling is the perfect example of subtle sexiness for the lady who doesn’t want to bare it all in a string bikini. Also, wearing a mesh pump can be slimming by elongating the appearance of your legs. Mesh designs have always been common in athletic wear but now have a more sophisticated look and a cut-out mesh dress will make you a show-stoppper at any formal event. So, don’t be scared. Go ahead and get fresh with mesh this summer!
It’s always nice when a popular trend sticks around long enough to become more readily accessible and affordable to the masses. I remember when statement necklaces became increasingly fashionable a few years ago and they were pretty pricey. Designs were dominated by high-end brands like Dannijo, Ben Amun, and Tim Binns but now the highly covetable closet staple can be found everywhere from Barney’s to Target. I have compiled a few of my favorite styles all for less than $100. Now you can truly start your summer off with a statement!
A shirtdress is something I always considered to be an essential piece for a a work wardrobe. A belted shirtdress paired with pumps is a perfect work outfit because it’s conservative enough for an office setting but a bit more relaxed and comfortable than suit or blouse and skirt. What I didn’t realize is how many varieties of shirtdresses are out there which makes it a truly versatile option for many different occasions.
This crisp, white Rag & Bone dress is sweet and edgy making it a great look to take from work to happy hour.
This sophisticated lace-inset beauty by Catherine Malandrino would be perfect for a cocktail party or an evening wedding.
You can’t go wrong with a safari style dress for a perfectly chic and relaxed weekend look.
I love a dress with a masculine feel especially when paired with some uber high stilettos for an irresistibly sexy look.
I love this polo shirtdress by Tory Burch. It would look really cute with some slip-on sneakers or some Chuck Taylors.
A sleeveless dress is a great option for a summer backyard BBQ or wear it with a light military jacket to transition into fall.
This super flirty, pleated, chambray dress is perfect for a first date to draw just enough attention to your gorgeous legs.
I have not seen many maxi shirtdress options but I love this Vince one with this super sexy slit.
What’s your shirtdress style? Feel free to share your looks and be featured on the blog.
White handbags are a definite must-have for the summer. The satchel bag is a great versatile style you can use on a daily basis. The Givenchy bag on the left is gorgeous but is priced well over $1000. That’s a lot of dough to spend on an item you will use for only a few months out of the year. Not to mention it is a pain to keep clean. The Charles & Keith purse on the right is under $100 and is just as cute. Will you splurge on this summer trend or save your $$$ for the steal?
Whether you like it or not…..it’s bikini season! Typically, we ladies start doing our crunches and squats to look cute in our teeny, tiny string bikinis but retro-style swimwear may be another option if you didn’t quite get into the shape you would have liked. The high-waisted bikini is making a resurgence at the poolside. A little more modest bikini bottom but with a sexy bustier top is the perfect alternative for a variety of body types.
This bikini incorporates classic gingham highlighted by sexy red seaming and bows.
This gorgeous fuscia bikini is more like wearing a bottom with a crop top showing only a slither of tummy. This is a great option for those wanting a more modest look.
I love this bright flamingo suit by Forever 21. I could just see myself by a pool in Miami with large retro sunglasses.
This fun floral bikini by Clover Canyon has a more triangle shaped bikini top if you just want the high-waisted bottom without the bustier style top.
If you’re really daring, this edgy cut-out bikini may be just the one for you.
Will you be channeling your inner pin-up girl this summer?
Overalls! They seem to be a pretty polarizing trend. Either people hate it or are totally embracing it. I’m still on the fence. In college, I had a favorite pair of vintage denim overalls I got at a thrift store. They were perfect in my eyes. Soft, weathered denim with holes over the knees. I finally departed with my beloved overalls for a more sophisticated look once I graduated but now I may be able to revisit the look. What I do like about this trend is that you have options. This first pair have a flare leg. A fringe hobo bag and platform sandals would create a perfect bohemian look.
This next pair, I admit, are little reminiscent of a farmer with the ultra loose fit. You could really sex it up with a cute crop top and high heels to balance the baggy silhouette.
I am most partial to this slim fit style. I think it’s a little more mature and easier to incorporate into one’s style. It’s a good way to dip your toe into the trend to see if it’s for you.
The short overalls are perfect for summer. It’s a nice easy style for a backyard barbecue or even a cover-up for the beach.
So, what’s your take on the overall trend? Hot or not?
You know you’re getting old when you start to see trends you wore the first time around making a return. Remember the ugly Teva and Birkenstock sandals of the 90’s? Well……they’re baaaack! Yes, seriously. I have even seen them being styled with socks! Ugly sandals are back in effect and have inspired even luxury designers like Jill Sander and Prada. Once reserved for hiking and hacky sack, these babies are now being paired with chic capri pants and denim cut-off shorts. The upside is that you can give your feet a rest with this comfortable trend and they can be pretty affordable at $60 for a pair of Teva sandals. I would go cheap with this trend if you’re going to try it because I have a feeling it will be fleeting…..hopefully
It looks like the skinny boyfriend jean is getting a slimming makeover this season and I’m all for it. Don’t get me wrong. I love my comfy boyfriend jeans but they don’t have the most flattering effect on my derriere. The skinnier version of the boyfriend jean is more feminine but still maintains the ‘borrowed from the boys’ vibe. This week’s splurge or steal features a pricey pair by True Religion that retail for $268. That’s not too bad but the Levi’s pair are only $98 and are just as cute. What would you do? Splurge or steal?
The arrival of a new season means new trends and one of the hottest trends this spring are crop tops. Most crop tops have a boxy silhouette which isn’t always flattering which is why I love the bustier crop top. It’s sexy and feminine but can be intimidating for many women to wear. If styled the wrong way, one could be confused for a streetwalker so here is some advice on how to style this trend. I chose this black and white lace bustier crop top by Topshop. The color was easy to style and the lace made it a little more interesting. Sporty chic is going to be big this spring as well and adding a ladylike touch to a men’s fashion inspired look is always cool. A silky bomber jacket, leather jogger pants, and wedge sneakers will help create a feminine yet sporty feel. You can add this bustier underneath a sophisticated white suit to add a little sexy for a nice dinner date. Lastly, you can take your crop top to all the many festivals that come with warm weather. Just add some high-waisted shorts, booties, and a moto jacket and you’re good to go!
Do you dare try this trend? If so, how will you style it. I’d love to feature your looks on the blog!
