Ok. This is a trend I wasn’t too sure about at first, but know I’m turning the corner. I think it was the stiletto version of gladiators that threw me off. They seemed a little too brazen or even cartoonish, but the flat versions have a nice bohemian feel. Gladiator sandals are not necessarily a new trend but will definitely be revisited strongly this spring. I think that they would look absolutely adorable with a soft, flowing mini dress like I saw in a Macy’s fashion show last week. So, I was on the fence, but now I think they’re a go. What do you think? Will the inner gladiator in you rise up this spring?
Spring has finally sprung! On this first day of spring, it’s time to stash away the burgundy and navy and bring out the pretty pastels for spring nails. I absolutely love the nail lacquers by butter London and they have some gorgeous choices for the spring.
Molly Coddled nail color
This purple-hued color represents the pantone of the season, radiant orchid. Be sure to grab this on trend color for spring.
Fiver nail color
I’m a sucker for mint nails. I was hesitant to try it at first but was surprised by how versatile the color actually was. It pairs well with just about any outfit.
Kerfuffle nail color
This peachy color is so vibrant and flirty! Perfect for a great beach getaway weekend.
Cottonbuds nail color
Clean white nails are always a great statement. A white manicure is a sophisticated option that looks great with a summer tan or naturally dark complexions.
Jaded Jack nail color
Be daring and try a super vibrant color like this bright yellow. You’ll be the life of the party with this fun hue.
Teddy Girl nail color
If you’re a little gun shy about trying very bright colors, a soft pink is classic and always in style.

This pretty pastel blue is a little off the beaten path but still very feminine and light.
You can find all of these colors at ulta and they are having a super sale (2 for $15) on butter London nail lacquers!
Introducing the shoe of the season……slip-on sneakers! This retro comfort shoe is making a comeback in a fierce way. This once kind of dorky shoe has received a fabulous update from designers like Saint Laurent, Sam Edelman and Vans. I love all of the varying textures and prints there are to choose from. I’ve already snagged the floral print slip-ons from the Peter Pilotto for Target collection and can’t wait to sport them this spring. You can pair these with flirty dresses, cute capris, or casual cut-offs. Which ever style you pick, these babies will leave your feet feeling fancy through the spring and summer seasons.
Alas, another MBFW is over but it left behind a brilliant outlook on what’s to come in the fall. There are a few trends that really jumped out and made me excited for the next fall season. I’m happy to see that capes were still on the runways. There is something so mysterious and sophisticated about a cape that I just love.

Creatures of the Wind
Lupita Nyong’o was stunning in a jaw-dropping Ralph Lauren cape gown at the Golden Globes and it appears other designers are following suit with their own designs.
One of my favorite movies of all times is Clueless and that’s exactly what I thought of as I watched the Tory Burch show. She brought back thigh and knee high socks with chunky heeled shoes. Classic!
It appeared many designers may be fans of Scandal as there were quite a few wrap coats on the runways indicative of Olivia Pope’s flawless style.
Creatures of the Wind
It was refreshing to see pretty pastel palettes as opposed to the typical warm colors. For some reason, I feel that clothes in heavy textures like wool and tweed look so much cooler in light colors. Unexpected and chic.
Black and white is a look that never goes out of style. It’s fun to see how designers continue to re-invent this look time after time.
Just as radiant orchid is the pantone of this spring, azure blue is the star of fall. This deeply rich blue hue will make anyone feel like royalty.

Thanks for reading my MBFW runway trend compilation. What were some of your favorite trends?
It looks like tartan is here to stay. The safe way to incorporate this look into your wardrobe would be to add a tartan blazer or shirt but why not be a little daring and try some plaid pants? I stumbled upon these adorable pair from Mango and was inspired to pair some looks with them. I will admit that wearing plaid pants can be a little tricky so I have created three different ways to rock this look. The first look is for someone with a more edgy personality. The addition of a cool leather moto jacket and Jeffrey Campbell booties to an otherwise preppy look gives it a London rocker, school-girl look. If your looking for a more work appropriate look try pairing the pants with a feminine silk blouse, a structured blazer, and pearls. If you’re a little self-concious about your rear, you can wear a long cardigan with a scarf and tall boots to provide a cozy and casual look.
Which look do you like the best? I would love to see what outfits you come up with so feel free to share!
Remember when Kanye West started rocking baggy leather pants and everyone talked about how weird and eccentric he was?
Well….I’ve been seeing more and more people embracing the look including noted fashion bloggers, celebs, and fashion runways. I must admit that when I saw Kanye in concert for the Watch the Throne tour, I thought he looked a little crazy. But now that I’m revisiting this emerging trend, I feel he may have been on to something. I mean, why not make comfortable pants more luxe and glam? I love these options below:
I even like this sequin option:
I spend more and more time in my luxury yoga/bar outfits so wearing leather sweatpants doesn’t seem too farfetched to me. Just like I used to think pairing heels with my Lululemon tapered sweatpants was weird until I started wearing it and loved it. All I’m saying is, don’t knock until you try it.
So what do you think? Will you be embracing this trend and give your comfort clothing a luxe update?
Sweatshirts have received a serious update! No longer will an image of a sweaty Sylvester Stallone climbing the steps in Rocky come to mind when thinking of wearing a sweatshirt. Designers from Old Navy to Lanvin have given these common threads new life. Embellished sweatshirts are a rising trend with everything from sequins and crystals to fur and leather. They are available in every budget. You can, of course pair them with skinny jeans and some high top wedge sneakers, or create a quirky look with a printed skater skirt and ankle boots. Either look would be fun. So, go on and get embellished!
I believe I mentioned in a previous post that I find over-the-knee boots to be a little intimidating. First, I am petite and I fear wearing a boot that comes to my thigh might take up the entire length of my thighs and make me look shorter. Secondly, some boots are a little reminiscent of Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman. After being out and and about and seeing over-the-knee boots on a variety of women, I’m starting to warm up to the idea. I actually have a pair of grey ones I bought a few years ago but I rarely wear them. I’ve been drawn to the basic black, low heel boots. These would be a great fall staple because they are a little more subtle and versatile. I can see pairing these with a flowy mini dress and moto jacket or leggings and a cozy knit sweater. Piperlime has some good options and I’ve selected my favorites to share with you.
1) I love the polished leather look of these French Connection Yolanda boots and the buckle detail provides just enough edge.
2) Stuart Weitzman 50/50 thigh boots have become the model that other designers are imitating. They are a huge celebrity favorite with their sleek, sophisticated style.
3) I think these Franco Sarto boots can give the pricey Stuart Weitzman boots a run for their money. The Franco Sarto boot is very similar for only $179!
4)Rachel Roy Gavin boots are a true representation of Rachel Roy’s posh style with the gorgeous gold lining detail.
I spent the majority of my schooling in an all-girl private school. I wore a uniform from the fifth through eighth grades. I would have been thankful for a cute little tartan skirt, but instead we wore a hideous wintergreen pinafore and white shirt. Being a young fashionista, I hated the fact that I was forced to look like everyone else. My mother loved it of course because it was much gentler on her wallet. In retrospect, I think maybe wearing a uniform was not so bad. It forced be to become more creative on ways to stand out from the crowd. I would express myself with my shoes and accessories wearing all sorts of funky jewelry I could get away with. Then there was the boxers trend. I can’t take credit for this one, but somehow we all started wearing mens boxers under our tunics. We would shorten them so the boxers would hang out below like a slip. The key was to find the most obnoxious boxers out there with hearts, dots, lips, etc. The trend went on for about a year before the administration put an end to it. In a exchange, however, we were granted permission to wear tennis shoes as long as they were white. It may not seem like a big deal, but to us….it was everything! All that being said, I never thought the day would come that I would want to wear anything that would even remotely remind me of my school days, but these sweet tartan looks have me reconsidering the trend. What do you think? Is plaid in your future this fall?
The moto style has become more sophisticated over the years. I remember years ago this style was relegated to punk rockers and misfits but now you can find this style everywhere from Doc Martens to Balenciaga, Balmain, and Topshop. There are so many variations of the moto jacket with the traditional black zipper-embellished style to soft, buttery leather, pastel styles. Either way is tres chic. Of course, a moto jacket pairs well with sexy skinny jeans and a sick pair of stiletto boots, but I also love wearing mine with feminine dresses for a cool juxtaposition. There are also so many choices in moto boots, pants, and skirts that can easily become a staple in any closet for some added edge. Check out these looks for style inspiration and let’s get ready to moto this fall!
