What I Wore: G.N.O. & The Great Gatsby!

Finally, I got to see the much anticipated movie The Great Gatsby last night!! One of my friends organized a fabulous girls’ night where we met at the bar of the movie theater (to pre-game with libations) all decked out in our roaring twenties looks.  I was over the moon excited to have the opportunity to dress up in my favorite fashion era of clothing.  I always feel so dignified and ladylike in those clothes and I think I’m going to find a way to incorporate that look in my wardrobe more often.

image

The movie was in 3D which really made the film extraordinary.  The images and colors were extremely vibrant.  I would be surprised if this film did not win the Oscar for best cinematography and costume design.  I literally wanted to jump into every outfit that the characters Daisy and Jordan were wearing.

image

I recently re-read the book and thought that the movie adaptation was very true to the novel.  I loved how some of the more significant phrases appeared across the screen.  I have also been listening to the soundtrack on repeat and really enjoyed seeing how they applied certain songs for specific scenes.

image

Lastly, I thought every actor they chose for the parts fit with how I imagined the characters when reading the book.  Mulligan was a perfect Daisy and don’t even get me started on Leonardo Dicaprio as Gatsby……obsessed!!!!

If you have not had a chance to see this film, RUN (don’t walk) to the theater! You will not be disappointed.

P.S. Get the soundtrack too :-)

Shoe Review: Talbots Rose Pink Platform Sandals

The best part about being an only child is that you continue to get spoiled (even in your late thirties)! This past weekend my mother gave me an early birthday gift of an array of shoes and clothing from her favorite store Talbots.  Now, most of my friends say they can never find anything in this store, but I have always had great luck there.  The majority of my work clothes have been from Talbots, Ann Taylor, and Banana Republic.  Anyway, amongst the dresses, bags, and shoes my mom gifted me were these rose-colored platform sandals.  I’m a pink girl, so I instantly fell in love with the color and loved the rope detailing as well.  They are very comfortable thanks to the platform and still appear very dainty on the foot.  I can’t wait to wear these all summer and I have a particular dress I got from Zara in NYC I will post soon!

What I Wore: NYC Day One

A month ago, I was about to buy my ticket to Pittsburgh to surprise my mom for Mother’s Day weekend and my mother called and said she saw the cast of Motown the Musical on GMA and wanted to go to NYC to see the show on Mother’s Day.  I’m so glad she came up with the idea because I had the most amazing weekend with my mother in NYC! We were two birds of feather flocking around the city.  We arrived Friday afternoon and settled in at the Sofitel Hotel in Times Square.

Me & Mom

We enjoyed a scrumptious dinner at The Shop restaurant inside the Andaza Hotel.  We both had the red snapper and cleaned our plates.  We also had dessert! A wonderful, warm apple and cranberry crumbly goodness that was just absolutely sinful!

She got it from her Momma! Make sure you hug your mother extra tight this weekend and if she’s no longer with you, keep your memories close to your heart.

Summer Lovin’ Caftan Style

I am so excited for the summer months.  Along with my obsession for turbans and head wraps, I’m feigning for a 70’s glam caftan!  Throw one of these on with some big shades and have people mistaking you for a celebrity.  What’s also great is that these flowing dresses can go from the beach as a cover-up to dinner with friends.  So, embrace your glam side and rock it ‘caftan style’ this summer!

Shoe Review: Steven by Steve Madden Studded Leopard Loafers

As you have probably figured out from my previous Shoe Review posts, I am not much of a flats kind of girl.  Being that I’m just under 5’2″ I need all the height I can get.  But as much as l love a good heel, sometimes a flat is just necessary so, I look for the cutest or most interesting ones I can find.  Case in point, these funky Steve Madden loafers.  I love how these shoes have two of my favorite trends in one creation.  As far as comfort goes, well…it’s a flat so it’s pretty comfortable.  My only criticism is that it could use some cushioning in the sole and a little arch support would be nice too.

Wooden Jewelry

I absolutely love accessorizing!  I used to be a strictly silver and white gold girl.  Then I ventured out into gold jewelry, mixed metals, and alas, rose gold jewelry!  Now I love anything eye-catching and unique which is why wooden jewelry has recently caught my attention.  I love the earthy texture and tribal vibe this trend has to offer.  I especially love when the wood is mixed with a metal or semiprecious stone.  You can go small with just a ring or make a grand gesture with a bold bib necklace.  Either way, I highly recommend trying this trend to give your outfits a new and different look.

What I Wore: All the Pretty Birds

Apparently, Atlanta has not received the memo that it is Spring.  The last few days have been cold and accompanied with rain and occasional thunderstorms.  We lost power in our house on Saturday three times!!! Not cool.  Sunday was cinco de mayo, as many of you know, and I was so hoping we would get a break in the weather so I could wear something bright and cute while sipping a margarita on a patio somewhere.  No luck. The weather was a tad bit warmer and the sun peeped out for a few hours so I jumped at the chance to wear something that slightly resembled spring.  I decided to wear my comfy boyfriend jeans and a beautiful bird top from Fab’rik.  I love the color combo of lilac and green (bonus the lilac perfectly matched my manicure) and the unexpected peek-a-boo action in the back.  It stormed again last night and today is another cool and dreary day.  As we residents of Atlanta await for warm weather with bated breath, our spring clothes remain trapped in the closet.  So, until I can post my real spring outfits, enjoy this top I refer to as All the Pretty Birds!
