Shoe Review: C. Label Loafer Pumps

I purchased these high heel loafers by C.Label years ago at a cute little boutique in Baltimore (I can’t remember the name).  I was drawn to the odd teal-greyish color and of course, the platform sole.  The great thing about a loafer pump is that the heel is usually pretty sturdy.  It’s also a classic look so, it will remain in style for years to come.  You can view some more loafer pumps on  my previous post on loafers.

Heathers: Classic 80’s Fashion Flick

I have been on a 80’s movie kick lately.  Last week it was all of the John Hughes classics like Sixteen Candles, Weird Science, and the Breakfast Club.  I feel like John Hughes was the first movie director to depict teenagers acting like actual teenagers. But no movie captures teenage angst like Heathers.  This dark comedy released in 1988 starred Shannon Doherty, Winona Ryder, and Christian Slater and is a true 80’s fashion film.  I’m a little ashamed to admit I headed several cliques during my youth. But I was never as ruthless as any of the Heathers.  Still, I think that’s why I have an affinity for clique movies like this one and others like Clueless and Mean Girls.  This movie had some of the best classic quotes. Do you remember….”F— me gently with a chainsaw” or “Everyone wants me for a friend or a f—“? Oh! The classics :-)

Besides producing some amazing soundtracks, the fashion from these films sparked trends across the nation.  You may not want to admit it now, but you know you were rocking the blazers with shoulder pads and the pleated skirts.

I’m loving the pinned-up preppy look with the brooches.  That’s a look I could stand to come back.

Don’t forget about the beloved Swatch watch.  Like the one Heather#1 would have wanted Veronica to have after she passed.  These are two Swatches I actually had back in the day.  I wish I could find them because a vintage Swatch can go for around $140.

Thanks for taking this little trip down memory lane with me.  The 80’s were a fun and colorful time and it’s great to reminisce and try to inject some of that fun in our current lives.

What’s All A Buzz for Fall Fashion: Bugs?

Last week I received my Tory Burch Fall Lookbook in the mail and was super excited. As I perused the pages, my eyes were blessed by the beautiful models adorned in rich textiles such as velvet and tweed.  As usual, the next look was better than the last and then, I saw it.  A huge bug pendant on this gorgeous dress.

Tory Burch Greer Scarab Pendant Necklace

When I think of a glamorous, vintage-inspired pendant an insect is not the first thing that comes to mind.  I continued to browse the pages and also noticed her dragonfly theme, which I must say, I’m a little obsessed over.  This prompted me to see what other designers were following this trend and discovered there were many.  I have compiled a few of my favorite finds including the Tory Burch dragonfly pumps I’m simply dying over.

What's Bugging You?

So, what do you think? Will you bugging this Fall?

A Taste of Brazil: Zara Jumpsuit

Besides shopping and drinking wine, my other favorite past time is traveling.  This past December I went to Rio de Janeiro with a friend of mine and we had the time of our lives.  We explored, ate, danced, and of course, shopped our hearts out.  I have one rule about international shopping: Try not to shop at the same stores we have in the States.  But when I saw the largest Zara store I’ve ever seen….I had to make an exception.  It was such a beautiful space full of clothing that were not yet back at home because it was their S/S collection when it was still winter back home.  I walked away with this gorgeous tropical print jumpsuit!  Every time I wear it I have memories of the fun girls’ trip to Brazil!

I was attending a fun event called “Everything Girls Want” at Happy Feet Boutique.  It was a great collaboration of women business owners displaying their talents.

Look for Less: Silver Pumps

The Battle of the Silver Pumps

                                   aldo-pumps-essi    vs       manolo-blahnik-bergdorf-goodman-shoes-pointtoe-metallic-patent-pump

On your left, you have a beautiful Aldo silver pump accented with a capped-toe detail.  It has a similar silhouette to the pricey Manolo Blahnik but the heel is not as high. On your right, you have a gorgeous, classic beauty that you could wear forever due to the lack of the trendy toe detail.  I honestly would be happy with either one but the Aldo version will save you about $500! The Aldo Essi pump is on sale for $49.98 whereas the Manolo will run you $595.  Which do you choose?

What I’m Digging: Tabitha Simmons

My new shoe heart throb……British fashion shoe designer Tabitha Simmons! Not only is she a fab designer, but is also an editor for Vogue and styles runway shows for Calvin Klein, Zac Posen, and Alexander McQueen.  Talk about a multitasker!  I really admire her ability to show her creativity and not be too whimsical.  Her shoes are eye-catching but not so out there you can’t wear them as an everyday shoe.  Here are a few I’m lusting over…..

These shoes have G.N.O. written all over them…

This color is just sick!

Tabitha Simmons striped wedge

I always love a funky wedge.

Playful but I would still totally wear these to the office.

I can’t get enough of these printed pumps.

If her collection is a little too pricey, you’re in luck.  She has a more affordable line for J. Crew.

Laser Cut Leather

Leather in the summer just never really made sense to me.  For obvious reasons, of course.  It’s a hot, heavy material that keeps you warm in the winter and otherwise will cause you to sweat.  I remember when I was in high school in the early 90’s and summer leather was making a comeback with a vengeance.  You remember Cross Colours and the jeans with the leather accent down the front? What about the long leather shorts guys used to wear and the leather short rompers the girls used to rock?  I distinctly remember going to our local amusement park in July and observing the cool teenage boys wearing the leather shorts and wiping their foreheads with handkerchiefs.  Silly, right? Well, don’t laugh too hard because after viewing the new spin on leather with the laser cuts, you just might be caught in some summer leather yourself.  Designers from Ferragamo to Jeffrey Campbell all have their take on this sexy trend.  What do you think?
