Fall Trend: Ready! Set! Moto!

The moto style has become more sophisticated over the years.  I remember years ago this style was relegated to punk rockers and misfits but now you can find this style everywhere from Doc Martens to Balenciaga, Balmain, and Topshop.  There are so many variations of the moto jacket with the traditional black zipper-embellished style to soft, buttery leather, pastel styles.  Either way is tres chic. Of course, a moto jacket pairs well with sexy skinny jeans and a sick pair of stiletto boots, but I also love wearing mine with feminine dresses for a cool juxtaposition.  There are also so many choices in moto boots, pants, and skirts that can easily become a staple in any closet for some added edge.  Check out these looks for style inspiration and let’s get ready to moto this fall!

Shoe Review: Leopard Booties

Don’t get it twisted! Fall is right around the corner and the fashion forecast calls for booties and more animal print.  I’m glad to be able to dust off these leopard booties I bought last year and give them new life.  This year I’m going to make an effort to pair them with skirts and dresses instead of just my skinny jeans.  I purchased these from Shoxie.com which is a fashion website developed by the fashionista behind Style Pantry, Folake Kuye Huntoon.  This fashion maven is definitely one of my style icons and her impeccable taste translates to her online store.  You will find great, trendy clothes at very reasonable prices.  You can thank me later :-)

These leopard booties are hot, but not so comfortable.  I try to make them a little bit more tolerable with gel cushions inside and only wear them to places I won’t have to do a lot of standing or walking.

Work it Out: My Top Brands for Work Out Gear

I am a work out fanatic.  This also means I’m a work out gear fanatic.  Growing up as a competitive gymnast and dancer I have been active all of my life.  I enjoy yoga, pilates, tennis, and my favorite exercise….Bar Method!  Ironically, I hate to run so tennis serves as my cardio.  I attend Bar Method 4-5 days a week and tennis 1-2 days a week so, I pretty much live in active wear.  Lately, I find myself buying more work out clothing than actual street wear attire.  Well, that’s what is so great about these three favorite brands of mine.  All of their clothes are so cute that you want to wear them every where.  It also keeps you motivated during your work outs so you can stay looking good in your yoga pants :-)

Lululemon work out gear
Lululemon is probably the most well known out of the three.  The Canada-based company recently received a lot of publicity due to the whole see-through pants issue, but that has thankfully been resolved.  I must admit I am somewhat of a Lulu addict.  I feel like they were one of the first companies to take active wear to that next level of looking good from the gym to the mall.  The clothing are expensive, but to me I get my money’s worth because I wear them so much and the high quality materials keep their shape over time.  It doesn’t hurt that their pants make your rear end look super good too!
Splits 59 work out gear
Splits 59 is a company I just learned about almost a year ago.  Their line is just as expensive as Lululemon (maybe even a little pricier).  It’s only sold online or in a specialty store like Bar method. I love how their clothes have a real edginess to them with a lot of cut-outs and sheer details.  Work out gear with sex appeal. I have the flair pants in the middle and LOVE them!  They’re like a girdle that just sucks you in at all the right places.
Karma work out gear
Karma is another Canadian company making soft, comfortable clothes.  This line is a little bit more affordable and is also sold in Nordstrom.  Their line has a more sophisticated and feminine vibe with asymmetric lines and ruffle details.  I have the mint T-shirt and wear it probably once a week.  I also have the blue jacket in black and have received numerous compliments on it.
I hope this gives you another reason to head to the gym or wherever you go to get your bootie tight!

What I Wore: Honeymoon Maxi Dress

I had the great pleasure of celebrating my first wedding anniversary this weekend!  I was feeling nostalgic and wore a Fab’rik maxi dress I had not worn since returning home from our honeymoon.  We traveled to Phuket Thailand, Singapore, and Tokyo and it was very tropical during that time of the year.  I packed a lot of light and flowy dress to prepare for the heat.  I love the bold pattern and bright colors of the dress.  It’s just so uplifting and I will forever have happy memories every time I wear it.

Phuket, Thailand was absolutely gorgeous.  Here we are at Phi Phi island where the Leonardo DiCaprio movie “The Beach” was filmed.  Pictures just don’t do this place justice.

We stayed at the Trisara resort in Phuket which is absolutely spectacular.  This was the view from our private villa and infinity pool. It was really hard to leave this place.

We started our anniversary on a positive note by attending church.  We came home and relaxed before heading out to a scrumptious dinner at The Optimist.  If you love seafood, definitely check this place out.  It took me the longest time to decide what to get because their menu is packed with so many different varieties of fresh fish.  We loved everything we ate and the service was great!

When we came home we popped some champagne and attempted to eat the top of our wedding cake as tradition dictates.  It surprisingly tasted okay but neither one of us could get over the idea of eating a one year old piece of cake.

Here’s to one year down and many years of marriage to come!

Playful Stud Earrings

I have always been into earrings ever since I got my ears pierced at age 3.  Even as a young girl, I wouldn’t even go to the mailbox without earrings on and I would scold my Mother if I caught her out without earrings.  I actually still call her out today :-).  I remember I had this huge hanging earring tree with a variety of cute stud earrings.  I had everything from ballet shoes to cheeseburgers.  As I got older, I began to wear big hoop and chandelier earrings. I will admit I went through the whole bamboo earring phase then moved on to finding the most ornate chandelier earrings I could find.  Now I find myself wanting to scale down.  I have been wearing my hair up mostly because I workout so often and big earrings aren’t very reasonable during a tennis match.  I don’t know if it’s just because I’ve been looking for small earrings or if they are really making a comeback, but I’ve noticed that some brands are creating some really cool and unique stud earrings.  Kate Spade, Anthropologie, and Modcloth have some absolutely adorable stud earrings in their collections. Here are just a few I like below. Enjoy!

I wish I had the bride and groom earrings to wear on my honeymoon but maybe I’ll get them for my one year anniversary that’s coming up this weekend!

Shoe Review: Talbots Rattan Strappy Sandals

You know it’s summer when you break out a rattan strappy sandal.  This pair by Talbots are wonderfully playful and delicate.  I wish I could take the credit of picking these out but they were a gift from my Mom.  She knows me so well :-) The heel isn’t too high and it has a small platform sole for comfort.  I also love how the straps are adjustable with tiny buckles on both ends (genius). I haven’t worn these to work but I feel like I could probably get away with it.  I do however, like to pair these with a cute full skirt or cuffed skinny jeans to show off the strap details.

Get the Look: Rihanna’s Fitted Crop Top

Rihanna is just that chick that every woman wants to be and every man wants to you-know-what. We could all stand to read a page from her book of style.  She’s a trendsetter and a total fashion risk taker, but it somehow all works on her.  I admire how she has the ability to look so cool and appear like she didn’t even try.  I have been flirting with the idea of wearing a fitted crop top and Rihanna styles it perfectly below.  She kept it simple in all black with skinny jeans and topped it with an oversized boyfriend blazer.  I think the key to wearing this look is balance.  Find a bottom with a higher waist so you won’t be revealing too much skin.  Low-rise jeans with a cropped shirt can come off a little…..well…you know.   I’ve re-created this look with every item under $100!

Rihanna: Get the Look

The necklace is from River Island and is very reasonably priced.  You can see her debut Rihanna for River Island collection fashion show on one of my previous posts.  I’m going to try to get my nerves up and rock a fitted crop top.  I’ll be putting in many hours at the Bar Method and staying away from carbs.  Do you dare to bare your midriff??

What I Wore: My Favorite Simple Maxi Dress

Wearing my hair natural in the summer has a Boho vibe to me.  It influences me to accompany my hair style with an equally laid-back outfit.  Nothing says effortless and comfortable more than my favorite American Apparel maxi dress.  This dress has been on repeat all summer.  It’s just so simple that I can style it a million ways.  I wear it to the grocery store, long flights, anywhere!  I could just kick myself for not getting more than one at the time, but I intend to change that very soon!

American Apparel Maxi dress

I paired it with another summer staple.  This Banana Republic Heritage sweater has proven to be the perfect summer sweater providing just enough coverage but cool enough for warm weather.

This eye-catching, intricately, woven leather bag was a one-in-a-million purchase.  I got it at a small boutique back in Pittsburgh years ago.  The owner only had one because she wasn’t sure how it was going to sell. The store is unfortunately no longer there.  I consider myself lucky because out of all of my handbags (designer ones included) I receive the most compliments on this one.  I love that it has every color under the sun and goes with virtually every outfit.  Definitely another summer staple for years to come.

Anthropologie pendant necklace

Let’s talk about this gorgeous pendant necklace from Anthroplogie!  They have the best affordable jewelry in my opinion.  Besides the beautiful colors, I love that it has a long, narrow design.  I feel like the pendant along with the maxi dress has an elongating effect which us petite girls need.
