It looks like the sultry songstress, Alicia Keys, is flexing her fashion muscles. She has collaborated with the classic shoe company to create Alicia Keys x Reebok. A collection that embodies her ultimate New Yorker urban vibe. When I first heard she was partnering with Reebok, I was a little surprised. Reeboks were so popular in the 80’s and early 90’s, but then they kind of fell off the grid. I sort of pictured her pairing up with Puma or Adidas, but if anyone can bring Reebok back to life, it will probably be her.
You can definitely see her influence in the design of the shoes. They remind me of the raw, edgy, New York girl Alicia was when she was first introduced to the music world. Urban, but not ghetto. A trendsetter, but not trendy.
I have to admit that I’m pretty happy that the fashion world is still in love with wedge sneakers. They are perfect for pairing with my yoga/bar fitness outfits during the cooler months. They’re also perfect for travel and sightseeing in style.
My faves are the navy and the tan pair. Which ones do you like? Are you feeling Alicia’s collection?
What happens when you mix the urban, rocker chic of rag & bone with the classic British style of Hunter boots? A beautiful creation of lust-worthy boots from the rag & bone x Hunter collection. Just when you thought Hunter boots couldn’t get any better with the new colors, these military-inspired designs are a wellington lovers’ dream. It’s funny how by adding simple details such as a rugged zipper can create a whole different look. I especially love the colors they chose. The all black option is so sleek but I also love the contrast with the navy and army green boots. The ankle boots are a nice alternative as well although, I can’t think of what you can pair the short boots with that you wouldn’t pair with the tall ones. They are $30 cheaper than the tall boots but at $295 and $265, there’s not much difference. It will be interesting to see how the short boots sell. What do you think? Are you coveting these boots as much as I am?
This morning I read my email as I usually do and stumbled across a pleasant surprise in my Daily Candy email. There was a grand opening of a new shoe store in Buckhead called Flatz Shoes! The concept is simple…..they sell only flat shoes. The savvy woman behind this clever idea is Kelci Stringer. Although I am a die-hard high heel kind of girl, I was intrigued by the idea. I met a good friend of mine for lunch and we moseyed on down the street to explore the new store. As we opened the door, we were wowed by the impeccably designed space and were greeted by a very personably woman, Christina.
They don’t carry your typical department store shoes. Instead you will find spiked pointy-toe flats and awesomely rugged boots by some really great brands including Blackstone, Frye, A.B.S., and Ramon Tenza. They also have gorgeous loafers, smoking slippers, ballet flats and booties. I fell in love with several pairs and will definitely return for some purchases.
Lots and lots of eye candy…..
You can contact them at firstname.lastname@example.org or even better, stop by the store at 314 Pharr Rd, Suite A in Buckhead. Be prepared for a wonderful shoe experience!
For whatever reason, the 1984 film The Woman in Red, made a profound impression on my 8 year old brain. The way Gene Wilder’s character was bewitched by Kelly LeBrock in her sexy red dress made me realize the power of a lady in red. Empowered is exactly how I felt when I first slipped this dress on in the dressing room of Tootsies of Atlanta.
I initially bought this dress to wear to a Valentine’s dinner with my husband over a year ago, but he had other plans. The dress remained in my closet while I anticipated my next opportunity to wear such a dress. This past weekend my husband’s childhood friend was getting married so I thought this would be the perfect time to make a great impression in this dress. It’s awkward attending a wedding when your husband is one of the groomsmen. You end up sitting at a table with a bunch of strangers by yourself. This dress gave me just the right amount of confidence I needed to open up and become that social butterfly I have the potential to be.
I just love the fit of the dress and the ruching is very forgiving.
The weather was absolutely perfect for the wedding but I always prepare for indoor air conditioning with a scarf or shawl. Sexy black pumps and gold jewelry finished off the look.
The verdict is in! I give Nutra nail gel perfect manicure out of 5. The pros are that it is a cheaper alternative to a professional gel manicure, there are a variety of cool colors to choose from, and no UV light is required. The cons are that it definitely does NOT last 2 weeks. Here are my nails after 1 week.
As you can see, my right hand has a lot more wear and tear. The chips formed right at 1 week. I’m sure there is somewhat of learning curve when applying the polish. There’s a possibility my technique could improve with practice. I would use this product again perhaps in between manicures so I won’t have to go as often. I will certainly have a professional manicure for any special occasions like this weekend. I’m attending a wedding and baby shower so this what my nails look like now…
I went with OPI Russian Navy with a matte top coat and glossy tips! What do you think?
Every girl needs some sexy black stiletto booties in their wardrobe. They are perfect with black leather legging and a moto jacket for a badass date night look or dress them up with a sophisticated suit or dress. There are so many options out there at many price points. The embellished ones are cool and different but a simple, chic style we will be much more versatile and will still be relevant in the future. I have chosen two sleek options that are on opposite ends of the price spectrum. The first pair on the left are Alberto Moretti and are priced at $1020 available at Barneys. They are gorgeous smooth suede booties with a sleek pointed toe. I also love the V-shaped cut on the front of the shoe which provides and elongating effect. The second pair are Enzo Angiolini found at Piperlime priced at only $130! These are so similar for the price. Nice suede, pointy-toe bootie with an asymmetrical cut also creating an elongating effect. So, whether you’re ballin’ with no budget or working with a tight budget, you can still look fabulous. Which do you like better?
Sweatshirts have received a serious update! No longer will an image of a sweaty Sylvester Stallone climbing the steps in Rocky come to mind when thinking of wearing a sweatshirt. Designers from Old Navy to Lanvin have given these common threads new life. Embellished sweatshirts are a rising trend with everything from sequins and crystals to fur and leather. They are available in every budget. You can, of course pair them with skinny jeans and some high top wedge sneakers, or create a quirky look with a printed skater skirt and ankle boots. Either look would be fun. So, go on and get embellished!
The weather here has been picture perfect. I was heading out to book club to discuss our latest book called The Book Thief. This is a beautiful coming-of-age story set in Nazi Germany that will be a major motion picture next month. I wanted to wear something bright and fun while the weather still permits. I elected for a neon & floral combination. It’s not something that obviously goes together but I think it works.
These baggy pants are so comfortable. They feel like pajama pants and they are probably the only stylish type of pants out there that you can get away with an elastic waistband…lol!
I picked up this fun, vibrant top at Forever 21 months ago and finally found something to wear it with. Does that happen to you a lot too? I often purchase pieces I like that I don’t readily have something to pair it with. It will then sit in my closet for months (or years) before I finally drag it out. Then, of course, my husband thinks it’s something new that I just bought and I’m like “No. Really. I’ve had this for months but just never wore it!’.
Finally, these zipper booties have been a staple in my closet for years now. I wear them to spice up an outfit, day or night.
