What I Wore: Beyond Yoga Stripes

I’m back in fitness gear. Surprise. Surprise….I really think I buy more workout clothes than regular clothes at this point.  It’s easy to do when you have luxury athletic brands like Beyond Yoga creating such comfortable and chic pieces.  It’s hard to go back to regular street clothes once your skin gets used to the insanely soft fabrics used in their clothing.  Last week I featured a post on this beloved brand so this week I decided to showcase one of my head-to-toe Beyond Yoga looks.

Beyond Yoga

This cowl drape top is perfect to throw on after a workout to head to lunch or errands.  The best part is you can wear it two ways to create two totally different looks!

Beyond Yoga

I like to keep my body warm in between teaching my Bar classes and tops like this one are easy and comfortable to throw on.

Beyond Yoga

Flexing some of my yoga muscles…lol!

I was wearing…

Beyond Yoga: Striped side panel leggings, quilted block back cami, cowl drape top.

Stay tuned for some more upcoming fitness outfit posts.  Thanks to Beyond Yoga  for creating such fabulous gear!

SJP Collection at Nordstrom!

It seems Carrie Bradshaw’s love for shoes has manifested into an actual shoe line via the very real Sarah Jessica Parker.  Inspired by her character on the beloved Sex in the City, the actress turned designer has created the SJP line sold at Nordstrom! Like most fashion fanatics, I was a devoted fan to Sex in the City, and a pair of shoes from the SJP line is about as close as I will get to be a young and fabulous single lady stomping the streets of NYC.  The SJP line includes gorgeous shoes, handbags, and even trench coats.  This collection is perfect for spring with pretty pastels and classic black patent staples.  I’m totally obsessed with the ultra feminine mint sandals. Here is a sneak peek from the line:

Lupita Nyong’o: Hollywood’s Newest ‘It’ Girl

A new ‘it’ girl has captured Hollywood’s heart and mine as well! Lupita Nyong’o!!  The 31 year old Kenyan actress has swept the film industry off their feet winning an Oscar and a SAG award for her break out role as Patsey in 12 Years a Slave.  She had not even yet graduated form the Yale School of Drama when she was cast for the role!  Ms. Nyong’o has also taken the fashion world by storm by killing it on the red carpet this entire award season.  Even though she is a newbie to the red carpet, her keen sense of style has caught the eye of just about every major designer wanting her to wear their designs.  She has topped the best dressed lists all season that many Hollywood veterans have yet to achieve.

This is when I personally first noticed Lupita on the red carpet.  I believe she single-handedly made cape dresses a fashion must when she arrived to the Golden Globes in this Ralph Lauren stunner.

The fashionista is unforgettable in this daring turquoise Gucci gown at the SAG awards.

It’s always nice to see a fresh face on the red carpet, but it’s even more special when it’s a face that represents a beauty that is not typically celebrated in our society.  As Lupita addressed in her speech at the Essence Black Women in Hollywood luncheon, it is extremely important for young girls to see people who look like them who are considered beautiful.  It has a huge impact on the self esteem of young girls when they don’t see women who look like them being celebrated in the media.  Lupita spoke of how she prayed for lighter skin until she saw model, Alek Wek, on the cover of magazine.  It wasn’t until then that she realized that how she looked was enough to feel beautiful.  I hope that the idea of beauty in our media will continue to evolve, but until then, I’m grateful we have been blessed with the beauty, grace, and eloquence of Lupita Nyong’o.
