Retro Swimwear: The High-Waisted Bikini

Whether you like it or not…’s bikini season!  Typically, we ladies start doing our crunches and squats to look cute in our teeny, tiny string bikinis but retro-style swimwear may be another option if you didn’t quite get into the shape you would have liked. The high-waisted bikini is making a resurgence at the poolside.  A little more modest bikini bottom but with a sexy bustier top is the perfect alternative for a variety of body types.

Lahco Of Switzerland - Rimini High-Waisted Bikini Bottom

This bikini incorporates classic gingham highlighted by sexy red seaming and bows.

Tori Praver Swim - Kenny High-Waisted Bikini Bottom

This gorgeous fuscia bikini is more like wearing a bottom with a crop top showing only a slither of tummy.  This is a great option for those wanting a more modest look.

Forever 21 - Flamingo Striped High-Waisted Bikini Bottom

I love this bright flamingo suit by Forever 21.  I could just see myself by a pool in Miami with large retro sunglasses.

Clover Canyon - Cigar Granny High-Waisted Bikini Bottom

This fun floral bikini by Clover Canyon has a more triangle shaped bikini top if you just want the high-waisted bottom without the bustier style top.

Kooj - Lace Up High-Waisted Bikini

If you’re really daring, this edgy cut-out bikini may be just the one for you.

Will you be channeling your inner pin-up girl this summer?

AAMU Reunion Class of 1969

I had the wonderful opportunity to join my Mom and help her celebrate her 45th college reunion at Alabama A&M University.  My Mother had not been back to the campus since she graduated in 1969 and it was great to witness her soak up all the memories and enjoy old college friends on the drastically improved campus. Many of you are probably not familiar with AAMU so here are a couple of facts:

1) Established in 1875 as the Huntsville Normal School.

2) It was designated a land-grant institution by the state of Alabama in 1891 and is one of the largest college campuses in the U.S.

3) AAMU is ranked #10 in the nation by the U.S. Department of Education on Accessibility, Affordability and Outcomes.

I stopped to pose with the flag before heading to the Pavers Ceremony.  The ceremony was to announce those who would receive a stone in their name on the main campus walk way after giving a donation towards the AAMU endowment.

Here we are standing in front of one of the new science buildings that was named after one of my Mom’s professor.  He apparently had a ‘thing’ for the pretty, young ladies…lol!

A look at the beautiful campus.

The class of ’69 was still looking pretty good!

Mother and I posing at the reunion Gala.

I know my Mom enjoyed her early Mother’s Day gift as much as I did.  Love you Mom!

Overalls: Hot or Not?

Overalls! They seem to be a pretty polarizing trend.  Either people hate it or are totally embracing it.  I’m still on  the fence.  In college, I had a favorite pair of vintage denim overalls I got at a thrift store.  They were perfect in my eyes.  Soft, weathered denim with holes over the knees.  I finally departed with my beloved overalls for a more sophisticated look once I graduated but now I may be able to revisit the look.  What I do like about this trend is that you have options.  This first pair have a flare leg.  A fringe hobo bag and platform sandals would create a perfect bohemian look.

Dittos - Delilah Overalls

This next pair, I admit, are little reminiscent of a farmer with the ultra loose fit.  You could really sex it up with a cute crop top and high heels to balance the baggy silhouette.

Nasty Gal - Roll With It Overalls

I am most partial to this slim fit style.  I think it’s a little more mature and easier to incorporate into one’s style.  It’s a good way to dip your toe into the trend to see if  it’s for you.

Love 21 - Life In Progress-Distressed Overalls

The short overalls are perfect for summer.  It’s a nice easy style for a backyard barbecue or even a cover-up for the beach.

Forever 21 - Blue Jeans Babe Overall Shorts

So, what’s your take on the overall trend? Hot or not?
