A ‘HOTMES’ Dancing in the Park

It’s not officially Labor Day weekend until HITP (House in the park) kicks off!  Sunday was the 9th annual HITP and it was quite fitting that I wore my UNIF Hotmes t-shirt because that’s exactly what we were by the end of the day.

Hotmes t-shirt

This was my third year attending this event and it has become increasingly popular each year.  People come out with their family and friends setting up tents and grills.  Everyone enjoys food and drinks while listening to some of the best house music djs from all around the country.

The day began with a scorching sun and humidity.  Thankfully we had some protection from the sun with our tent but we were still sweating bullets.

Dark clouds began to roll in and replaced the sun with a cool breeze.

Enter inside the pavilion if you dare but come prepared to dance until the wheels come off!  Once we got inside, the sky opened up and it began to rain.  The tribal beats from the music made it feel like we were doing some sort of rain dance.

There’s nothing more cathartic to me than dancing.  I just feel so free and happy!

This a ‘before’ picture because we were all looking like hot messes at the end of the day.  We had such a great time.  House music, food, friends, and spirits equals a fantastic way to celebrate Labor Day weekend.

How did you celebrate?

What I Wore: My Favorite Simple Maxi Dress

Wearing my hair natural in the summer has a Boho vibe to me.  It influences me to accompany my hair style with an equally laid-back outfit.  Nothing says effortless and comfortable more than my favorite American Apparel maxi dress.  This dress has been on repeat all summer.  It’s just so simple that I can style it a million ways.  I wear it to the grocery store, long flights, anywhere!  I could just kick myself for not getting more than one at the time, but I intend to change that very soon!

I paired it with another summer staple.  This Banana Republic Heritage sweater has proven to be the perfect summer sweater providing just enough coverage but cool enough for warm weather.

This eye-catching, intricately, woven leather bag was a one-in-a-million purchase.  I got it at a small boutique back in Pittsburgh years ago.  The owner only had one because she wasn’t sure how it was going to sell. The store is unfortunately no longer there.  I consider myself lucky because out of all of my handbags (designer ones included) I receive the most compliments on this one.  I love that it has every color under the sun and goes with virtually every outfit.  Definitely another summer staple for years to come.

Anthropologie pendant necklace

Let’s talk about this gorgeous pendant necklace from Anthroplogie!  They have the best affordable jewelry in my opinion.  Besides the beautiful colors, I love that it has a long, narrow design.  I feel like the pendant along with the maxi dress has an elongating effect which us petite girls need.

What I Wore: Au Naturale

I had been looking forward to the Peachtree Hills Wine & Arts festival because the weather for the past few weeks had been pretty picturesque, but humidity decided to rear it’s ugly head this weekend.  As most of you know, humidity equals frizzy hair. Even my keratin treatment is no match for the Georgia heat and humidity so, I decided to let my hair do what it wants to do naturally.  I went to Target and purchased some inexpensive curl hair products and let them work their magic.

image

I figured since I didn’t have to worry about my hair, I didn’t want to worry about my face either so I went out sans makeup.

image

I opted for a crop top and cutoff shorts for an easy, breezy look.

image

We had so much fun (despite the heat). The volunteers were pretty heavy-handed so it was more like a wine drinking rather than a tasting :-)

What I Wore: NYC Day Two

Welcome to my second installment of NYC Mother’s Day weekend! Our morning started off in Tribeca where we had a scrumptious breakfast.

image

image

We enjoyed our breakfast at this quaint little restaurant called Kitchenette.  It was so warm and homey giving you the feeling of stepping into your grandmother’s kitchen with sweet smells swirling in the air!

image

image

Cookies and cakes galore!

image

Red velevet pancakes! Eat your heart out!

image

My girl Michele dropped by to join us for breakfast :-)

image

After our meal, Mom went to a salon next door for a manicure and I took the opportunity to burn some calories and explore Tribeca.

image

I came across an adorable farmers market with all sorts of goodies.

image

We left Tribeca and headed to the Soho area for some vintage shopping.  I was so excited to visit one of Rachel Zoe’s favorite shops Resurrection! It was filled with one of a kind vintage pieces from Missoni, Oscar de la Renta, Gucci, McQueen and more.  Unfortunately, I don’t have Rachel Zoe’s budget so none of these beauties came home with me. Next time ;-)

image

A little pit stop through Times Square on our way back to the hotel.

image

We ended our night at a restaurant of famed chef, Marcus Samuelsson, called the Red Rooster.  It is located right in the heart of Harlem so I wanted to go ultra vintage glam with a beaded headpiece and red lips.

image

That’s me impatiently awaiting my drink.

What I Wore: A Pop of Neon

A few weeks ago I attended the launch party of a decadent truffles company called Cris’s Brigs.  They specialize in Brazilian chocolate truffles (Brigadeiros) using an old family recipe.  There were a variety of sinful flavors like passionfruit, pistachio, and little kiss.  This was my first time having Brazilian truffles and I must say….they did not disappoint.  It was a wonderful event held in the lounge of an upscale Buckhead apartment building with a large outdoor balcony with city views.  Wine, chocolate, and a beautiful evening.  What more could a girl ask for ;-)

image

Since it was a Brazilian truffle event I wanted to wear something vibrant to reflect the rich and colorful culture.

Naughty Girls Need Love Too

This past weekend I attended a launch party for a fascinating new company.  The company is Naughty Girl Greetings and let me tell you, these cards are NAUGHTY!! I had to buy a few for the hubby (for those special occasions).  The company was founded by Regina Byrd just this year and has already become wildly successful with consultants all over the country and over 4000 cards sold.  I must say I love the concept of these cards.  You have plenty of funny cards but no cards that push the sexual envelope like these do.  The launch party was a lively affair with a dj and cocktails at one of my favorite places, Happy Feet Boutique in Brookhaven.
