Garden in the Lights at Atlanta Botanical Garden

I often have trouble getting into the holiday spirit.  It could be because stores began setting out holiday decor and products around Halloween or the fact that Thanksgiving is so overshadowed by Black Friday sales.  Maybe it’s the fact that holiday music is played starting in early November so by the time Christmas rolls around I’m sick of it already.  Whatever the reason, it gets harder for me every year to shake off the grinch feeling.  A few weeks ago I was playing a tennis match in Piedmont Park and caught a glimpse of the light display in the Atlanta Botanical Garden.  I went home and did some online research and decided to check it out.

Holiday Lights at Atlanta Botanical Gardens

This past Friday my husband and I had our date night at the Garden in the Lights.  It was both of ours first time to the Atlanta Botanical Garden and it was definitely a sight to see.

We went during peak hours so there were plenty of families and couples out to enjoy the magical display on a not-so-cold night.

I was thoroughly impressed with decor of the grounds.  It was literally like walking through a winter wonderland with music, hot drinks, and even fireplaces to make your own s’mores.

Nothing says Christmas like a giant lit cobra???

Shoe Review: Seychelles Lucky Penny Ankle Boots

I was a little sad that summer was ending until I started noticing all of the pretty new boots that are beginning to debut for fall.  Now that I got these gorgeous Seychelles lucky penny ankle boots, I can’t wait for fall!  I first spotted them in my Anthropologie catalog but actually found them for much cheaper at DSW.  I have skinny ankles so it is often difficult for me to find an ankle boot that doesn’t make my legs look like they are swimming in the boots.  The nice curve on the top of these boots is very flattering and the pewter color is just awesome.  Expect to see these in many of my future posts paired with jeans, skirts, and dresses!

What I Wore: My Favorite Simple Maxi Dress

Wearing my hair natural in the summer has a Boho vibe to me.  It influences me to accompany my hair style with an equally laid-back outfit.  Nothing says effortless and comfortable more than my favorite American Apparel maxi dress.  This dress has been on repeat all summer.  It’s just so simple that I can style it a million ways.  I wear it to the grocery store, long flights, anywhere!  I could just kick myself for not getting more than one at the time, but I intend to change that very soon!

American Apparel Maxi dress

I paired it with another summer staple.  This Banana Republic Heritage sweater has proven to be the perfect summer sweater providing just enough coverage but cool enough for warm weather.

This eye-catching, intricately, woven leather bag was a one-in-a-million purchase.  I got it at a small boutique back in Pittsburgh years ago.  The owner only had one because she wasn’t sure how it was going to sell. The store is unfortunately no longer there.  I consider myself lucky because out of all of my handbags (designer ones included) I receive the most compliments on this one.  I love that it has every color under the sun and goes with virtually every outfit.  Definitely another summer staple for years to come.

Anthropologie pendant necklace

Let’s talk about this gorgeous pendant necklace from Anthroplogie!  They have the best affordable jewelry in my opinion.  Besides the beautiful colors, I love that it has a long, narrow design.  I feel like the pendant along with the maxi dress has an elongating effect which us petite girls need.

A Taste of Brazil: Zara Jumpsuit

Besides shopping and drinking wine, my other favorite past time is traveling.  This past December I went to Rio de Janeiro with a friend of mine and we had the time of our lives.  We explored, ate, danced, and of course, shopped our hearts out.  I have one rule about international shopping: Try not to shop at the same stores we have in the States.  But when I saw the largest Zara store I’ve ever seen….I had to make an exception.  It was such a beautiful space full of clothing that were not yet back at home because it was their S/S collection when it was still winter back home.  I walked away with this gorgeous tropical print jumpsuit!  Every time I wear it I have memories of the fun girls’ trip to Brazil!

I was attending a fun event called “Everything Girls Want” at Happy Feet Boutique.  It was a great collaboration of women business owners displaying their talents.

A Day at the Getty Museum

The Getty Museum was founded my the J. Paul Getty Trust and has two locations.  The Getty Villa in Malibu and the Getty Center in Los Angeles.  The Getty Center opened in 1997 and since then has been providing a space for artistic expression and interpretation to the public.  It is a beautiful, sprawling hilltop campus with gorgeous views of the city.  I was elated to have the opportunity to finally pay a visit after a nice Sunday brunch.

DSC02927

As you can see, my mirror-printed Zara dress was on repeat for this occasion.  I dressed it down with some flat sandals for all the exploring I planned to do at the Getty.

DSC02926

Just look how majestic the building looks with that gorgeous blue sky as a backdrop.

DSC02916

Just one of the many views of the city you can capture from the hilltop.

DSC02920

The sun was blazing once again so I would steal a little rest in any shady spots I could find.

Can you find me in this pic?

A really cool maze design in one of the courtyards.

As hot as it was, I know many people were probably tempted to cool off in this very inviting water.

DSC02943

Yep! Another shady spot.

DSC02934

This is probably one of the best views you can get of Los Angeles!

I know it looks from these pictures we only walked the grounds, but we did actually spend an ample amount of time exploring the different exhibits.  Photos were not allowed and I didn’t want to go to Getty jail ;-)

What I Wore: Old Becomes New Again

This is an outfit I wore a couple of weeks ago to meet a friend, and fellow blogger, for drinks.  I had actually been looking for a crisp, white blazer for the upcoming warm season but have had difficulty finding one I really liked.  Well, I was going through my closet the other day and what did I find? A crisp, white blazer!! It still had the tags on it (shame).  I was delighted to find I already had what I was looking for but realized just how cluttered and disorganized my closet had become. Have you ever found yourself purchasing something you didn’t realize you already had until you got home and saw it?

image

This prompted me to sort through my clothes and donate items I know I won’t wear anymore.  It was actually kind of fun! I found so many great pieces I had totally forgotten about.  It was like shopping in my own closet!

image

Case in point, the scarf, blazer and pants were all items I completely forgot about and fell in love with all over again.

What I Wore: Navy Stripes & Mint

Wine+patio weather+friends= a fantastic Saturday afternoon!  This past weekend was the semi-annual Vinings wine crawl.  Just a $5 ticket gets you access to 5 restaurants all with special discounts on wine and food.  The Vinings is such a cute area with quaint buildings filled with specialty shops and restaurants all within walking distance.  It’s an event I don’t think I’ve missed since I moved to Atlanta.

What I Wore: Plaid & Pumps

Spring has not sprung in Atlanta, but that didn’t stop me from perusing all of the new spring shoes at my favorite shoe store Happy Feet Boutique.  We had a little event at the store so it was a good excuse to sip wine and shop the beautiful collection of shoes.

What I Wore: Army Stripes

The weatherman lied.  It was supposed to get up to 60 degrees today but it only made it to 49 degrees.  Needless to say, I was a little ill-prepared for the dreary weather with my lightweight parka but fortunately, I was inside most of the day.  This outfit is a perfect example of what I call “The Anatomy of an Outfit”.  It’s essentially just basic separates with a statement piece.  It’s a great formula to utilize when trying to put together an outfit.  Army green is sort of my new neutral.  It goes with everything that khaki does, but it’s just a little bit cooler.  The outfit featured in this post could have gone all the way preppy with a blazer, but adding the army parka with a statement necklace transformed it to an edgier look.  Hope these tips help :-)

What I’m Digging: Statement Earrings

I was perusing my usual stack of fashion magazines and one thing that caught my eye were the bold statement earrings on the models and celebrities. What is really great is that these earrings once reserved for more formal occasions are now being worn with casual, everyday outfits adding a touch of glam to a day look.  There are also a lot of affordable options from brands such as Forever 21, Ann Taylor, and Lulu Frost for J. Crew.  So add a little sparkle to your outfits with a fun, bold statement earring!
