Jeans and a t-shirt used to be the quintessential casual outfit in our society, but lately it seems to have been replaced by luxury sweatpants and high-end yoga leggings. It seems that everywhere you look, people are running around in activewear. Even the stay-at-home moms have replaced ‘Mom’ jeans for their Lululemon yoga pants (which may actually be a good thing). Some critics in the fashion community refer to it as the casualization of America. At first glance, it appears like we have become a more physically active society, but unfortunately, that is not the case. People have decided to perpetuate an active lifestyle without putting in the work which in my opinion, defeats the purpose of wearing body-hugging attire. Isn’t the point of doing a million squats to show off your great ass?
The innovation of designer athletic wear is largely to blame. Brands like Lululemon may have led the way but now many other designers are getting into the activewear game. Some of my favorite brands Beyond Yoga, Alo, Splits 59, and Koral activewear have beautiful clothing that can easily go from the gym to lunch. Even brands like Urban Outfitters, Loft, and Gap are making luxury athletic wear more accessible to the masses. Kate Hudson’s Fabletics, I believe, is going to be a game changer as far as creating high-end activewear affordable. You can get an entire Fabletics outfit for less than a pair of leggings! It’s so tempting to spend all day and evening in some of these clothes because designers are now using such irresistbly soft fabrics. I feel kind of guilty that my many pairs of $200 jeans are going unworn but they just feel so uncomfortable compared to my leggings (and I have NOT gained any weight).
I have travelled all over the world and have been slightly embarrassed by the sloppy reputation of American travelers. You can spot us out a mile a way with or cut-off jean shorts, tank and flip-flops. We tend to lack the sophistication of many of the other first world nations and this yoga pants epidemic is not helping our case. I am just as guilty as everyone else. If you had told me even a year ago that I would wear a pair of workout leggings and an off-the-shoulder top out to dinner, I would have said you were crazy. But I have and I probably will continue to do so. Why? Because it’s cute and comfy, and I even feel a little sexy. So, maybe we are not the most chic country in the world, but we are innovators and I think the rest of the world will soon follow our lead. Do you think we have taken this look too far?
If you have been following my blog, you know I’m a fitness fanatic and a tennis nerd. There’s nothing better than when two things you love come together to create something wonderful. You can imagine my excitement when I learned one of my favorite luxury athletic clothing lines has debuted a collection for tennis! Introducing the Splits 59 tennis clothing line, Court Couture! So far, there is only one tennis skirt but it’s super cute with a high thigh split. I love the color scheme of buttercup yellow, turquoise, and white which is a fun and unexpected look for tennis. All of the materials are moisture wicking so you can stay cool and calm on the court. They have featured some sexy crop leggings with flattering side panels and a sleek performance jacket that would look good on and off the court. This line is just going to add to my current obsession of cute tennis clothes. Just in time for the summer season

Yes! I have another fitness clothing crush! It’s Koral activewear and I’m totally obsessed! I stumbled upon this newly- launched, L.A.-based clothing line on Daily Candy and promptly went to the website to see more. What I found was sexy workout clothes any fitchick would die to wear. Some of my favorite finds are the turquoise open back tank, liquid leggings, and a jumpsuit. Yes! A jumpsuit! This line is cute, sexy, and tough all rolled into one. Check it out!

I have been busy working on my Pilates certification which means more time in my athletic wear! This week I’m featuring my favorite pair of Beyond Yoga leggings. I was obviously drawn to the bright, electric blue color but also a little intimidated. I decided to try them on out of curiosity and also because I have nothing like these in my closet. I was pleasantly surprise by how they fit. Thanks to the luxe material the leggings have a flattering fit and they are oh, so soft!
The black quilted block cami is another one of my favorites. The texture is interesting and the fit is slimming.
This perfect peace sweater is so versatile. I can easily pair it with skinny jeans and booties and wear it out to dinner.
Beyond Yoga is hands down my new favorite luxury activewear brand. I’m so thankful for my local Bar Method in Atlanta for carrying such great brands and introducing me to this one. I have pretty much abandoned my old faithful, Lululemon, and haven’t looked back. There are seven fashion forward ladies behind this U.S.A.-based label that boosts quality athletic clothing for all sizes and silhouettes. Besides the fact that their clothes have extraordinary style, the fabrics are sooooo amazing! I have one pullover that is absolutely so soft I wear it weekly. I have several pairs of their leggings that have such a flattering fit and are comfortable and stylish enough to wear from day to night. I have to admit I have gone out to dinner many times after my Bar workout (I promise I don’t smell). I picked out a few of my faves from their website. I love my silver open back sweater you see pictured below but I have my eye on that cobalt blue open back top
You can find Beyond Yoga at specialty retailers or go to the website. Hint: they also appear often on Gilt.com with super flash sales!
