Winter shorts. It seems like an oxymoron but it’s a look that I have embraced along with many other fashion-minded ladies out there. It’s a nice alternative to a dress or a skirt with tights and for some reason, it seems a tad more flirtatious. Last week I wrote a post about revisiting the classic look of houndstooth. I found these cuties years ago at Macy’s and they are still very relevant. The shorts speak for themselves so I usually just wear a solid top and tights and some sexy heels to accent the legs. Another cute idea is to wear over-the-knee boots and show just a peek-a-boo of thigh. The booties were an old purchase as well from Nine West. I honestly kind of forgot about them until I stumbled upon them a few weeks ago. There’s nothing like dusting off a great pair of shoes and giving them new life. Do you wear winter shorts? If so, I’d love to see how you rock them.
The weather here has been picture perfect. I was heading out to book club to discuss our latest book called The Book Thief. This is a beautiful coming-of-age story set in Nazi Germany that will be a major motion picture next month. I wanted to wear something bright and fun while the weather still permits. I elected for a neon & floral combination. It’s not something that obviously goes together but I think it works.
These baggy pants are so comfortable. They feel like pajama pants and they are probably the only stylish type of pants out there that you can get away with an elastic waistband…lol!
I picked up this fun, vibrant top at Forever 21 months ago and finally found something to wear it with. Does that happen to you a lot too? I often purchase pieces I like that I don’t readily have something to pair it with. It will then sit in my closet for months (or years) before I finally drag it out. Then, of course, my husband thinks it’s something new that I just bought and I’m like “No. Really. I’ve had this for months but just never wore it!’.
Finally, these zipper booties have been a staple in my closet for years now. I wear them to spice up an outfit, day or night.
I am always perusing the fashion magazines, blogs, and other media and every once and a while I come across something that makes my heart skip a beat. Insert….Burak Uyan, shoe designer extraordinaire. Uyan is a German-born designer that has had stints at Givenchy and Giambattista Valli before concentrating on his own fabulous collections. His shoes are divinely architectural and feminine and they ooze sexiness. I imagine I would feel like a lioness on the prowl for my next victim in these shoes. Since these are a little outside of my shoe budget, I have yet to try them on, but I do like the hidden platform design in most of these shoes which adds some extra comfort. Below are a few of my faves I found on Polyvore.com. Eat your heart out
Save up your chips because these beauties don’t come cheap but are well worth it.
Don’t get it twisted! Fall is right around the corner and the fashion forecast calls for booties and more animal print. I’m glad to be able to dust off these leopard booties I bought last year and give them new life. This year I’m going to make an effort to pair them with skirts and dresses instead of just my skinny jeans. I purchased these from Shoxie.com which is a fashion website developed by the fashionista behind Style Pantry, Folake Kuye Huntoon. This fashion maven is definitely one of my style icons and her impeccable taste translates to her online store. You will find great, trendy clothes at very reasonable prices. You can thank me later
These leopard booties are hot, but not so comfortable. I try to make them a little bit more tolerable with gel cushions inside and only wear them to places I won’t have to do a lot of standing or walking.
My new shoe heart throb……British fashion shoe designer Tabitha Simmons! Not only is she a fab designer, but is also an editor for Vogue and styles runway shows for Calvin Klein, Zac Posen, and Alexander McQueen. Talk about a multitasker! I really admire her ability to show her creativity and not be too whimsical. Her shoes are eye-catching but not so out there you can’t wear them as an everyday shoe. Here are a few I’m lusting over…..
These shoes have G.N.O. written all over them…
This color is just sick!
I always love a funky wedge.
Playful but I would still totally wear these to the office.
Bam! This is a bootie.

I can’t get enough of these printed pumps.
If her collection is a little too pricey, you’re in luck. She has a more affordable line for J. Crew.

Sometimes a girl just gets lucky! I stumbled upon these Michael Kors booties a couple years ago at Belk on sale! They have been a staple in my closet ever since. The simplicity of a black bootie enables me to rock them with everything and the zipper and stud detail makes it stand apart from every other basic black heel. I will admit, when I first tried these on they were a little snug. I walked around the shoe department for a while trying to make them comfortable then finally decided to ask the salesman if he could stretch them for me. He pleasantly obliged and in an hour, they felt like an entirely different shoe. So, the tip for today is make sure you spend an ample amount of time in a shoe to determine how comfortable they will be when you wear them out. Don’t be afraid to ask for any augmentations such as heel pads, ball-of-the-foot pads, or stretching. Any shoe department worth their salt should be ready and willing to accommodate you.
Today I’m reviewing one of my favorite pairs of booties. I got these at my friend’s shoe store the Happy Feet Boutique in the Brookhaven neighborhood of Atlanta. It’s a beautiful shoe store with a variety of shoes from funky Jeffery Campbell platforms to posh Ralph Lauren pumps. What also sets this store apart from the rest is that they do pedicures there as well. So, you can sip wine, shop for shoes, and get a pedicure! Fabulous, right?
Anyway, back to the shoes. I was initially drawn to the unusual color combo of these shoes. The dark red and pink are an unexpected but gorgeous combination.
Next, I noticed the exquisite details of the braided bow and faux croc pattern on the heel. As far as comfort goes, I can wear these all day thanks to the nice platform.
One bonus detail is the elastic piece inside the heel part of the shoe. This is excellent for people with a narrow heel, like myself, to help prevent it from slipping. Genius!
