It’s always nice when a popular trend sticks around long enough to become more readily accessible and affordable to the masses. I remember when statement necklaces became increasingly fashionable a few years ago and they were pretty pricey. Designs were dominated by high-end brands like Dannijo, Ben Amun, and Tim Binns but now the highly covetable closet staple can be found everywhere from Barney’s to Target. I have compiled a few of my favorite styles all for less than $100. Now you can truly start your summer off with a statement!
I know. I know. You are probably so tired of hearing about Kim Kardashian and Kimye. You can’t turn on the the t.v. or radio without hearing about their upcoming nuptials in Paris, but you have to admit that they have been looking really good lately. The paps can’t get enough of this dazzling couple. I have really never been a huge fan of Kim K’s style but I do think Kanye has had somewhat of a good influence on her by toning her down a little. Whether it’s Kanye or becoming a new mom, her style is definitely evolving for the better. Here she is stepping out in Paris for ice cream with the fam while getting ready for her big day. I love this military style bandeau dress by Givenchy and Guiseppe Zanotti booties. Her slicked back hairstyle really polishes off the look. We can’t all afford $2million wedding gowns so I have offered a more affordable option to get the look.
How do you feel about Kim K’s new style? Would you rock this look?
White handbags are a definite must-have for the summer. The satchel bag is a great versatile style you can use on a daily basis. The Givenchy bag on the left is gorgeous but is priced well over $1000. That’s a lot of dough to spend on an item you will use for only a few months out of the year. Not to mention it is a pain to keep clean. The Charles & Keith purse on the right is under $100 and is just as cute. Will you splurge on this summer trend or save your $$$ for the steal?
You know you’re getting old when you start to see trends you wore the first time around making a return. Remember the ugly Teva and Birkenstock sandals of the 90’s? Well……they’re baaaack! Yes, seriously. I have even seen them being styled with socks! Ugly sandals are back in effect and have inspired even luxury designers like Jill Sander and Prada. Once reserved for hiking and hacky sack, these babies are now being paired with chic capri pants and denim cut-off shorts. The upside is that you can give your feet a rest with this comfortable trend and they can be pretty affordable at $60 for a pair of Teva sandals. I would go cheap with this trend if you’re going to try it because I have a feeling it will be fleeting…..hopefully
This past weekend I had the pleasure of meeting up with a girlfriend of mine to see the Urban vs Couture fashion show. It was a held at 595 North which is a nice event space in West Midtown. It was a rainy day so I decided to finally break out a rain coat I got at Tootsie’s in Buckhead during their end of summer sale. It’s such a statement piece with the bright colors and crazy prints. My first instinct was to play it safe with a monotone outfit but decided to try mixing prints by wearing a navy striped shirt and pop of color accessories.
What do you think?
I arrived early to get a good seat and a few snaps before the show started. They also had a cute little pop-up shop with vendors from a variety boutiques.
The first designer, Gayla Rogers, was probably my favorite show. Her clothes were beautiful, flattering, and well constructed.
The crop top is so hot right now and I love the pairing with a fitted maxi skirt!

The audience enjoyed several musical and dance performances throughout the night.
Then the night took a different turn with some out-of-this-world designs by Avantoooh Glam Squad! These designs were absolutely NOT practical, but extremely innovative and sexy.
Yes….these are faux nails that go down to the floor.
Lady Gaga’s next red carpet look, maybe?
This is crazy, right? Sorry for some of the blurry photos. It was difficult to capture good still photos of the moving models.
I have very fond childhood memories of Easter Sunday. The excitement of Easter egg hunts, candy, delicious dinners, and dressing up in my Easter Sunday Best! My Mom used to go all out for my Easter dresses buying may Gunny Sack, Priscilla, and Laura Ashley dresses. This is probably why I still love dressing up each Easter to give tribute to my younger days. I’m still pretty traditional, although, one year I fought tooth and nails to wear white palazzo pants and yellow suede platforms to church (I think I was 14). Florals and pastels are the hallmark of Easter which is the holiday that really kicks off the spring season. I love to feel very ladylike in an A-line dress (floral or pastel), fun statement jewelry, and pretty pumps. Lastly, this is usually the time I debut a new spring bag. I hope one day to have a little girl to play dress up with but until then, I’ll have to be my own dress up doll.
What’s better than and ‘it’ girl or a jumpsuit? An ‘it’ girl in a jumpsuit! Lupita Nyong’o has been burning up the red carpet since she hit the scene and each look gets better and better. My ultimate favorite alternative for a dress for an elegant occasion is a jumpsuit. This sleek black, strapless Veronica Beard jumpsuit Lupita is sporting here is super flirty yet sophisticated. Of course, this girl knows how to accessorize and she added some fun touches with printed pumps and a pop of color clutch. I found a similar sweetheart neckline, strapless jumpsuit for only $80 and have provided a way to style it like Lupita.
It looks like the skinny boyfriend jean is getting a slimming makeover this season and I’m all for it. Don’t get me wrong. I love my comfy boyfriend jeans but they don’t have the most flattering effect on my derriere. The skinnier version of the boyfriend jean is more feminine but still maintains the ‘borrowed from the boys’ vibe. This week’s splurge or steal features a pricey pair by True Religion that retail for $268. That’s not too bad but the Levi’s pair are only $98 and are just as cute. What would you do? Splurge or steal?
It’s that time of the year when families and friends head out of town on fun excursions for spring break. I was not so lucky to be going anywhere fun this time so instead I live vicariously through Instagram posts of happy people enjoying the beach. I decided that if I can’t go anywhere, I can at least help someone plan a fabulous outfit for their fun trip. This is something I would wear if I was headed to the beaches of say…St Barts. I love eye-catching, bright swimwear. Bright colors look so good in the sun and no one makes a more colorful bikini than Mara Hoffman. I especially love the bustier top which is great for us ladies who aren’t as blessed in the cleavage area. A soft, white tunic cover-up is a nice complement to offset bright swimwear and I love the bohemian feel of this one. You can easily throw on some cut-off shorts and head to lunch. Oversized sunglasses will be huge this season and they always add a touch of glam to a look. A lot of people forget about wearing jewelry at the beach or pool but I love to accessorize at all times. A simple pendant necklace is easy and chic. All you need is a great straw bag and some fun sandals. These Kate Spade sandals are too adorable.

I hope you enjoy your vacation wherever you may be headed and have some fun for me too!
The arrival of a new season means new trends and one of the hottest trends this spring are crop tops. Most crop tops have a boxy silhouette which isn’t always flattering which is why I love the bustier crop top. It’s sexy and feminine but can be intimidating for many women to wear. If styled the wrong way, one could be confused for a streetwalker so here is some advice on how to style this trend. I chose this black and white lace bustier crop top by Topshop. The color was easy to style and the lace made it a little more interesting. Sporty chic is going to be big this spring as well and adding a ladylike touch to a men’s fashion inspired look is always cool. A silky bomber jacket, leather jogger pants, and wedge sneakers will help create a feminine yet sporty feel. You can add this bustier underneath a sophisticated white suit to add a little sexy for a nice dinner date. Lastly, you can take your crop top to all the many festivals that come with warm weather. Just add some high-waisted shorts, booties, and a moto jacket and you’re good to go!
Do you dare try this trend? If so, how will you style it. I’d love to feature your looks on the blog!
