I had the wonderful opportunity to attend a birthday party of friend of my husband last weekend. What made the party extra special was that it was a Harlem Renaissance theme party!!! Once I heard about this weeks prior my creative juices started flowing. That period of fashion is hands down my favorite era. I’ve always felt like that was the time I should have been around for. It was a time when men were dapper gentlemen and women were sophisticated ladies at all times. I look at old pictures and it looks as if women dressed up just to go grocery shopping! A far cry from how we look shopping today. I also love the style icons of that time such as Billie Holiday, Sarah Vaughan, and Josephine Baker. Here are a couple of looks from the party
So often, life imitates art. I used my costume inspiration for a wedding we attended the next day!
