Detox 101: The Master Cleanse- Update

The Master Cleanse

I have completed the master cleanse!  10 days later and 10 lbs lighter and feeling great! It truly was not as hard as I thought it would be.  I was never tired or hungry.  In fact, by day 3, I had lost the taste for food.  This is exactly what I wanted to accomplish from the cleanse.  I wanted to clean my palate so I could start fresh with a healthier diet and lifestyle.  I’m  no longer craving my previous weaknesses like Zaxby’s, bread, or sweets.  I also haven’t had any alcohol in two weeks and I don’t even miss it!! During my cleanse, I spent an ample  amount of time researching healthy recipes for every meal of the day and snacks.  My goal is to avoid eating any packaged foods as much as I can.  So far, I’ve made my own hummus, protein cereal bars, and vegetable soup and I’m just getting started.  Hopefully, I can keep this up but the recipes I have found are so delicious that it shouldn’t be too hard.  I will be sure to post some of my favorite recipes in the future.  I feel good after doing this cleanse, but make sure you check with your doctor before trying this cleanse or any other cleanse or new diet.

Stay healthy!

Detox 101: The Master Cleanse

The Master Cleanse

As I write this post, I am on day 6 of the master cleanse.  The year 2013 was a lot of fun and it showed on my waistline and thighs so, like most people, I vowed to make a healthy start in 2014.  I have tried several cleanses and detoxes in the past including, Pressed Juicery, Arden’s Garden, and GNC Total Body cleanse.  I ran into a friend of mine in November who was doing the master cleanse and had only good things to say about it.  I went home, did some research, and decided to try it.

So, exactly what is the master cleanse? It’s also commonly referred to as the lemonade diet. It was created by Stanley Burroughs in 1940 who was an early believer in natural healing.  During our busy lifestyles, we are slowly adding toxins to our liver, colon, kidneys, and other organs.  This diet was created to help rid our body of these toxins to improve overall health and in some cases, heal chronic illnesses.  The original diet calls for a minimum of 10 days to a maximum of 40 days on the cleanse.  You begin with a natural laxative tea every night before bed and in the morning.  You could also do a salt water flush in the morning instead of the tea.  During the day you drink 6-12 servings of the lemonade that consists of organic lemon juice, organic cayenne pepper, organic Grade B maple syrup, and filtered water.  The lemon helps further flush out toxins while the cayenne helps boost metabolism.  The maple syrup provides the remaining required nutrients.

So far, it hasn’t been too bad.  Day 2 was difficult due to an unpleasant GI experience but that was the only set back.  By day 3, I lost the taste for food or any cravings.   I haven’t felt hungry at all and I have continued to work out at Bar Method.  I have felt a little light-headed at times  but it resolved after I drank some water.  I have lost 7 pounds over the last 6 days.  Definitely, water weight, but my stomach is already much flatter and my general puffiness is gone.  I have 4 more days to go and I will give you an update next week on how I wean off the cleanse and start a healthier diet.  For more info, check out the website:
