Awwww……yeah! It’s time to celebrate the birthday of the U.S.A. and what better way to say “I America” than sporting a quintessential All-American girl look? Comfort is a must since you’ll probably be at a BBQ or the beach before heading out to the fireworks show. There’s nothing more classic than cut-offs and Chuck Taylors. Add a patriotic T-shirt or tank and throw on a cute kimono for extra style points and you’re good to go!
This past weekend I had the pleasure of meeting up with a girlfriend of mine to see the Urban vs Couture fashion show. It was a held at 595 North which is a nice event space in West Midtown. It was a rainy day so I decided to finally break out a rain coat I got at Tootsie’s in Buckhead during their end of summer sale. It’s such a statement piece with the bright colors and crazy prints. My first instinct was to play it safe with a monotone outfit but decided to try mixing prints by wearing a navy striped shirt and pop of color accessories.
What do you think?
I arrived early to get a good seat and a few snaps before the show started. They also had a cute little pop-up shop with vendors from a variety boutiques.
The first designer, Gayla Rogers, was probably my favorite show. Her clothes were beautiful, flattering, and well constructed.
The crop top is so hot right now and I love the pairing with a fitted maxi skirt!

The audience enjoyed several musical and dance performances throughout the night.
Then the night took a different turn with some out-of-this-world designs by Avantoooh Glam Squad! These designs were absolutely NOT practical, but extremely innovative and sexy.
Yes….these are faux nails that go down to the floor.
This is crazy, right? Sorry for some of the blurry photos. It was difficult to capture good still photos of the moving models.
All in all it was a fun night!

Alas, another MBFW is over but it left behind a brilliant outlook on what’s to come in the fall. There are a few trends that really jumped out and made me excited for the next fall season. I’m happy to see that capes were still on the runways. There is something so mysterious and sophisticated about a cape that I just love.
Lupita Nyong’o was stunning in a jaw-dropping Ralph Lauren cape gown at the Golden Globes and it appears other designers are following suit with their own designs.
One of my favorite movies of all times is Clueless and that’s exactly what I thought of as I watched the Tory Burch show. She brought back thigh and knee high socks with chunky heeled shoes. Classic!
It appeared many designers may be fans of Scandal as there were quite a few wrap coats on the runways indicative of Olivia Pope’s flawless style.
It was refreshing to see pretty pastel palettes as opposed to the typical warm colors. For some reason, I feel that clothes in heavy textures like wool and tweed look so much cooler in light colors. Unexpected and chic.
Black and white is a look that never goes out of style. It’s fun to see how designers continue to re-invent this look time after time.
Just as radiant orchid is the pantone of this spring, azure blue is the star of fall. This deeply rich blue hue will make anyone feel like royalty.

Thanks for reading my MBFW runway trend compilation. What were some of your favorite trends?
I want to know who turned off the summer weather switch in Atlanta and demand to know when they are going to turn it back on!!! It only reached a high of 63 degrees on Friday which put a wrench in my cute summer outfit ideas. You can’t go wrong with light layering so I paired a soft camo tee with a blazer and boyfriend jeans. I’ve always loved the combination of camouflage and pink. It’s weird, I know, but I love the thought of pairing such a feminine color with a pattern associated with ultimate masculinity.
I just love this Forever 21 necklace. It looks a lot more expensive than it is and adds great sparkle to any outfit.
Here I am spotted in front of Chick-a-Biddy. This is a restaurant chain that just made it’s way to Atlanta. I had heard good things about it and was eager to try it out. I glanced at the menu ahead of time and thought I was going to go with the black bean quinoa burger. I had a change of heart when I arrived and the savory smell of chicken tickled my nose. I ended up with the chicken tenders served with a wasabi-honey dipping sauce and a watermelon-feta-mint side salad. Let’s just say I was not disappointed!

Besides shopping and drinking wine, my other favorite past time is traveling. This past December I went to Rio de Janeiro with a friend of mine and we had the time of our lives. We explored, ate, danced, and of course, shopped our hearts out. I have one rule about international shopping: Try not to shop at the same stores we have in the States. But when I saw the largest Zara store I’ve ever seen….I had to make an exception. It was such a beautiful space full of clothing that were not yet back at home because it was their S/S collection when it was still winter back home. I walked away with this gorgeous tropical print jumpsuit! Every time I wear it I have memories of the fun girls’ trip to Brazil!
I was attending a fun event called “Everything Girls Want” at Happy Feet Boutique. It was a great collaboration of women business owners displaying their talents.
This is my first attempt at a top knot. What do you think?
This is my ‘before’ pic before I got glamorized by make up artists Ony.
Getting all done up….
Voila! I’m wearing one of the luscious lip creams by Ony. You can see all of her products at onybeauty.com!

Leather in the summer just never really made sense to me. For obvious reasons, of course. It’s a hot, heavy material that keeps you warm in the winter and otherwise will cause you to sweat. I remember when I was in high school in the early 90’s and summer leather was making a comeback with a vengeance. You remember Cross Colours and the jeans with the leather accent down the front? What about the long leather shorts guys used to wear and the leather short rompers the girls used to rock? I distinctly remember going to our local amusement park in July and observing the cool teenage boys wearing the leather shorts and wiping their foreheads with handkerchiefs. Silly, right? Well, don’t laugh too hard because after viewing the new spin on leather with the laser cuts, you just might be caught in some summer leather yourself. Designers from Ferragamo to Jeffrey Campbell all have their take on this sexy trend. What do you think?
