How to Style A Bustier Crop Top

The arrival of a new season means new trends and one of the hottest trends this spring are crop tops.  Most crop tops have a boxy silhouette which isn’t always flattering which is why I love the bustier crop top.  It’s sexy and feminine but can be intimidating for many women to wear.  If styled the wrong way, one could be confused for a streetwalker so here is some advice on how to style this trend.  I chose this black and white lace bustier crop top by Topshop.  The color was easy to style and the lace made it a little more interesting.  Sporty chic is going to be big this spring as well and adding a ladylike touch to a men’s fashion inspired look is always cool.  A silky bomber jacket, leather jogger pants, and wedge sneakers will help create a feminine yet sporty feel.  You can add this bustier underneath a sophisticated white suit to add a little sexy for a nice dinner date.  Lastly, you can take your crop top to all the many festivals that come with warm weather.  Just add some high-waisted shorts, booties, and a moto jacket and you’re good to go!

Thanksgiving Day Outfit Ideas

Are you still contemplating Thanksgiving Day outfit ideas?  Here are two ideas you can toss around.  Contrary to what most people think, I don’t think it’s a good idea to wear super loose and comfortable clothes on holidays.  This just encourages the likelihood of you overeating and feeling bad about yourself later.  Another tip is never go to a party hungry.  Always eat a light snack before heading over so you won’t be the guest hogging the appetizer table.  I feel you should be relatively comfortable, and of course, adorable.  If you’re attending a more formal sit down dinner, I recommend an A-line or skater dress.  This silhouette is feminine without being too restrictive.  This River Island dress has it’s own pearl necklace embellishment which I paired with an edgier silver moto jacket so it wouldn’t be so girly.  Adding opaque tights and classic patent Mary Janes helps ground the look (and keeps your legs warm for those in colder climates).  For those attending a more casual gathering, try a nice pair of jeans with some stretch for comfort.  I love this mixed texture moto knit jacket.  The fur collar adds a touch of sophistication. You can’t go wrong with these sick pair of Marc Jacobs over-the-knee boots! I hope these ideas help you a little.  Honestly, I’ll be at home with the hubby for Turkey Day and will be lounging in my fluffy leopard print robe all day :-)

Get the Look: Printed Pencil Skirt

The only thing hotter than a printed pencil skirt is Naya Rivera in a printed pencil skirt.  This small screen vixen is quickly becoming a rising style icon in Hollywood. Here she is wearing one of my favorite silhouettes with a pencil skirt and peplum top.  This look may be a little intimidating to some wearing a fitted skirt that has a pattern.  It may draw a little more attention to your hips and rear than you may desire, but a mirrored print tends to be more flattering because it draws the eye toward the middle.  A peplum top is a perfect item for all ladies to incorporate in their wardrobe because it creates a beautiful hourglass shape.  I also love pairing a body-hugging outfit with a lace up sandal.  The height of the heel and the bareness of the sandal elongates the legs.  I have created a similar look to Naya’s for the fashionista on a budget :-)

Get the Look: Rihanna’s Fitted Crop Top

Rihanna is just that chick that every woman wants to be and every man wants to you-know-what. We could all stand to read a page from her book of style.  She’s a trendsetter and a total fashion risk taker, but it somehow all works on her.  I admire how she has the ability to look so cool and appear like she didn’t even try.  I have been flirting with the idea of wearing a fitted crop top and Rihanna styles it perfectly below.  She kept it simple in all black with skinny jeans and topped it with an oversized boyfriend blazer.  I think the key to wearing this look is balance.  Find a bottom with a higher waist so you won’t be revealing too much skin.  Low-rise jeans with a cropped shirt can come off a little…..well…you know.   I’ve re-created this look with every item under $100!

Rihanna: Get the Look

The necklace is from River Island and is very reasonably priced.  You can see her debut Rihanna for River Island collection fashion show on one of my previous posts.  I’m going to try to get my nerves up and rock a fitted crop top.  I’ll be putting in many hours at the Bar Method and staying away from carbs.  Do you dare to bare your midriff??

Body Chain Necklaces: Hot or Not?

Here’s another trend I’ve been somewhat indecisive about. Body chain necklaces also called cape necklaces.  I first really noticed them on the reality character, Toya, from Married to Medicine.  Yes. I admit I watched the show.  Anyway, in one of her interviews she was wearing a bodycon dress with this chain necklace overlay that covered her entire torso.  It was a really interesting and different look.  Then I started noticing it more and more on other people.  The look is mostly styled with either a form-fitting or strapless top.

Looks kind of cool, right?

I like the more delicate necklaces like these:

This last one is giving me a little too much of a Game of Thrones vibe.

Rihanna for River Island

Rihanna may not have the best taste in men (ie. Chris Brown), but her sense of style is on point. I have been anxiously awaiting the singer turned fashion designer’s new line for River Island and I must say I did enjoy it.  The show itself was very edgy  and raw with unedited rap music blaring while stick thin models looking mean as hell walked in her clothing.  All of the clothing definitely looked like something Rihanna would wear with lots of bare midriffs, sexy high slit dresses, and belly chains.  There were a couple of pieces I believe us regular people could rock.  Particularly the printed pants and jumpsuits. Those boots were killer too.  I have included the video of the show below.  If you have trouble finding the link, click on ‘Updates’ and it should take you to the video.  I’m really interested in your thoughts on the line.  Feel free to comment after you watch.
