I’m baaaaacckk!! Sorry for the short hiatus but my sweet husband surprised me and swept me off to Mexico for my birthday last week! I was beyond excited because I hadn’t been to Mexico since spring break ’96 in Acapulco. This trip was of a different nature, however. I traded in partying at Senor Frogs for a relaxing on the beach and enjoying quality time with my husband.
We travelled one hour south of Cancun to Riviera Maya, Mexico. I’m pictured here on the north end of our resort by the natural pool.
We stayed at the Grand Palladium Hotel & Resort. A sprawling property with four separate hotels, multiple pools, and restaurants.
A few pictures of the gorgeous property…
This picture doesn’t do this pool justice which was located at the spa.
There were a lot of iguana crossings.
My natural habitat….
I’m on top of the world!
A beautiful night in Riviera Maya…..
Stay tuned for the second part of my trip tomorrow!
Like most people around the country, I headed to a Super Bowl party yesterday. I was completely apathetic about both teams and it’s purely chance that my Super Bowl outfit had the colors of the winning Seattle Seahawks. If the Steelers aren’t in the Super Bowl, I will typically just pull for the team with the least amount of rings so no one challenges the Steelers 6 championship rings record. I initially was going to wear black, coated skinny jeans with a blouse and statement necklace, but it felt a little too dressy for the occasion. So, I opted for a simple plaid shirt I found at Target and a pair of skinny jeans I haven’t been able to fit into for over a year! Thanks to the master cleanse and Dietbet, I’m back in my Tory Burch zipper jeans!
It was a surprisingly balmy day of temps close to 70 degrees. It was hard to believe Snowmegeddon of Atlanta was just five days prior.
It is still hard for me to wear flats with skinny jeans. Being a petite and curvy girl, I always feel the need to wear high heels to elongate my silhouette. These nude color (nude for my complexion) pumps from Aldo are pretty comfortable.
Of course, I still had to glam up the outfit with a chunky necklace and some fun bracelets. What did you wear for your Super Bowl party?
Unless you have been living under a rock, every fashionista knows Peter Pilotto for Target is the next amazing designer collaboration for Target. Peter Pilotto and Christopher De Vos are the two visionaries behind the line. They truly have a gift for creating and mixing extraordinary prints and marrying them with interesting silhouettes. Their stunning designs have been seen on celebs like my favorite, Kerry Washington. The collection for Target promises to embody the same colorful and vibrant feel of their usually highly expensive line. I have chosen a few of my favorites to show. I’m absolutely dying over their dresses and that short suit will be mine! Check it out and tell me which is your favorite?

The line launches in select Target stores on February 9. This one is going to sell out so get there early!
For whatever reason, the 1984 film The Woman in Red, made a profound impression on my 8 year old brain. The way Gene Wilder’s character was bewitched by Kelly LeBrock in her sexy red dress made me realize the power of a lady in red. Empowered is exactly how I felt when I first slipped this dress on in the dressing room of Tootsies of Atlanta.
I initially bought this dress to wear to a Valentine’s dinner with my husband over a year ago, but he had other plans. The dress remained in my closet while I anticipated my next opportunity to wear such a dress. This past weekend my husband’s childhood friend was getting married so I thought this would be the perfect time to make a great impression in this dress. It’s awkward attending a wedding when your husband is one of the groomsmen. You end up sitting at a table with a bunch of strangers by yourself. This dress gave me just the right amount of confidence I needed to open up and become that social butterfly I have the potential to be.
I just love the fit of the dress and the ruching is very forgiving.
The weather was absolutely perfect for the wedding but I always prepare for indoor air conditioning with a scarf or shawl. Sexy black pumps and gold jewelry finished off the look.
The weather here has been picture perfect. I was heading out to book club to discuss our latest book called The Book Thief. This is a beautiful coming-of-age story set in Nazi Germany that will be a major motion picture next month. I wanted to wear something bright and fun while the weather still permits. I elected for a neon & floral combination. It’s not something that obviously goes together but I think it works.
These baggy pants are so comfortable. They feel like pajama pants and they are probably the only stylish type of pants out there that you can get away with an elastic waistband…lol!
I picked up this fun, vibrant top at Forever 21 months ago and finally found something to wear it with. Does that happen to you a lot too? I often purchase pieces I like that I don’t readily have something to pair it with. It will then sit in my closet for months (or years) before I finally drag it out. Then, of course, my husband thinks it’s something new that I just bought and I’m like “No. Really. I’ve had this for months but just never wore it!’.
Finally, these zipper booties have been a staple in my closet for years now. I wear them to spice up an outfit, day or night.
It’s a polka party on thestylishmd today! I used to avoid polka dots like the plague because they reminded me of Minnie Mouse or something my grandmother would wear. Recently, I decided to give them a chance. I’m realizing you can create a classic look with polka dots without looking too kitchy.
I have been wanting to try my hand at mixing prints so starting with contrasting polka dot patterns was a good way to dip my toes in the water. I found it to be a subtle way to style a mixed print look.
I love the peter pan collar on this blouse. It gives it a vintage feel so I paired it with classic pearl jewelry. I balanced all the patterns with neutral accessories.
What do you think? Have you attempted a mixed print look? I’d love to see them so feel free to share!
Unless you have been living under a rock (or not reading my blog) you would know that yesterday was the launch of Phillip Lim for Target. The buzz around this collection made me think about another amazing Target designer collaboration, Prabal for Target. I had purchased this outfit in the winter and had never worn it! I was attending a social event last week and thought it would be the perfect transitional fall outfit for an Atlanta evening.
Since it’s still reaches close to 90 degrees during the day, wearing shorts and a sheer blouse kept me cool. The blazer kept my shoulders warm while being inside the overzealously air-conditioned indoors.
I must say I did step outside of my comfort zone with these bright florals. I haven’t liked florals since middle school when I was forced to wear floral Laura Ashley dresses to special occasions. Those days are clearly over and this psychedelic outfit is a far cry from any dainty floral print dress.
I was able to peruse some of the pieces from the new Phillip Lim for Target collection and was pretty impressed. I especially loved the handbags and the floral print shirtdress. Look forward to seeing my pieces in a future post. If you haven’t seen the collection, you can view it here.

The only thing that makes me more excited than a great designer collaboration is an affordable one! Insert….Phillip Lim for Target!! I have been drooling over a Phillip Lim satchel for a while now and I can finally get my hands on one. There has been some criticism by us fashion snobs about some of the quality of the clothing from previous Target designer collections, but from the looks of this one, it appears well crafted. Here’s a sneak peek of the collection.
I am dying over this mini satchel. I love the structure of this bag and the honey gold color makes it a little more fun.
Your basic trench coat gets a cool update with baby blue accents. It’s so crisp and so clean!
Leather accents are going to be very on trend this fall and this navy number is adorable. The A-line silhouette and soft short sleeves keep the dress flirty and fun.
Leather moto jacket. Tuxedo pants. Yes, please!!!
Beautiful, asian-inspired, floral print dress! This dress stands out from all the rest with it’s cool asymmetric hemline.
This is the big boy to the mini satchel. I can’t decide which one I want…
This color combo is killer! What more can I say?

I have been wanting to pull the trigger and add a graphic sweatshirt to my closet but I like the idea of this fun sweater even more. It reminds me of the quirky sweaters I used to wear in the 80’s.
The Phillip Lim for Target collection has everything. Classics, whimsy, color, and fun. It hits stores September 15th! Mark your calendars because I have a feeling this line will sell out quickly.
I was born in the mid 70’s so I pretty much grew up during the 80’s. Fashion in the 80’s was all about bright colors and I loved it. My favorite clothing brands as a kid were Benetton and Esprit. My wardrobe was full of bright colors and prints so I decided to pay homage to my childhood with this coral and magenta maxi I snagged from Target. Pink and turquoise was one of my favorite color combos growing up so accessorizing with my bubble necklace really made the dress pop.
What is your favorite bright color combo?

I had been looking forward to the Peachtree Hills Wine & Arts festival because the weather for the past few weeks had been pretty picturesque, but humidity decided to rear it’s ugly head this weekend. As most of you know, humidity equals frizzy hair. Even my keratin treatment is no match for the Georgia heat and humidity so, I decided to let my hair do what it wants to do naturally. I went to Target and purchased some inexpensive curl hair products and let them work their magic.
I figured since I didn’t have to worry about my hair, I didn’t want to worry about my face either so I went out sans makeup.
I opted for a crop top and cutoff shorts for an easy, breezy look.
We had so much fun (despite the heat). The volunteers were pretty heavy-handed so it was more like a wine drinking rather than a tasting
